Sassabration festival in Carson City this Saturday
If you’ve been longing to crawl out from behind your air conditioning this summer, eat some mouth-watering food and experience colorful hijinks, then plan to attend the third annual 2017 Sassabration this Saturday in the parking lot of Carson Hot Springs Resort, 1500 Old Hot Springs Road in Carson City.
For anyone new to Sassabration, businesses and community members in Carson City have been collaborating with Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint since 2015 to bring a day of celebrating LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning) equality and diversity in Northern Nevada.
With “Reno Pride” right around the corner, Nevada’s capital and its rural communities aren’t to be outdone in the mix.
Event features at this year’s Sassabration include music courtesy of talented bands like Sapphic Musk, Year of the Fist, Roxxy Collie, Roof Top Becky, as well as craft-brewed beverages to quench your thirst while you’re busy working up a sweat striking that pose on the dance floor.
If you’re looking to pick up a souvenir to take home and admire all year round, be sure to visit the many local vendor booths and artisans selling their specialty wares and providing fun activities for the entire family.
A parade will precede festivities at the Carson Hot Springs Resort, starting at 11 a.m. from the Brewery Arts Center parking lot at 449 W. King Street in downtown Carson City. The parade then proceeds northeast toward the hot springs, where the procession ends and the rest of the event begins at noon.
Participants are encouraged to dress in their favorite costumes, ride their bikes, or their vehicles along the parade route.
Refreshments will be available at A to Zen Gifts along North Carson Street during the parade.
Admission into the event and its parade are free. Carson Hot Springs Resort also features free admission during Saturday’s Sassabration as part of its customer appreciation day.
Sassabration runs until 10 p.m. Saturday night.
All proceeds generated by sales from donated food and beverages, as well as from vendor booth fees and items sold at the silent auction at Sassabration will be donated to PFLAG Carson Region, Ron Wood Family Resource Center, Future Kind, and Our Center.
Event organizers said they hope to raise $10,000 from this year’s Sassabration.
Sassabration is fun paired with a good cause, so come out and show some support for your LGTBQ brothers, sisters, and allies while getting your party on.
