Levitt Amp concert series returns to Carson City's Brewery Arts Center all summer long

Collectivity is a jazz/funk, psychedelic soul band originally formed in Shanghai, China and now based in the SF Bay Area. We're talking about blistering energy and genre blending from an ensemble of world class musicians with a focus on exploration through collective improvisation. Upbeat grooves, soulful guitar work and tight arrangements are things to expect from a collectivity show. They draw on influences from jazz/funk, gospel and psychedelic soul. Opening act: Blue Envy

More than 30 brewers represented at this year’s Capital City Brewfest happening June 24

The Capital City Brewfest returns this summer with a record number of brews available for sampling. Attendees can look forward to tasting at least 30 different beers and hard ciders at the event. The Capital City Brewfest takes place Saturday, June 24 from 3 to 8 p.m., along Curry Street at McFadden Plaza in Carson City.

A day of golf to support Carson High School students pursuing Vocational Education at Eagle Valley Golf Course

Bette Larsen hosted benefit golf tournaments for over 25 years for charitable causes. The most noteworthy benefit golf tournament was The Chuck Benton Annual Golf Tournament which assisted Chuck in providing the necessary medical care and disability services after he was involved in a horrific auto accident which left him a quadriplegic.

Senior Citizens are invited to participate in a free "Oral History Theater Workshop" at Dayton Library. The performance workshop will be based on Senior Citizen's personal stories from their lives. Seniors will share memorable stories from their past and we will transform a selected group of these stories into a theatrical performance.

Scuttled/Transformed art exhibition available for viewing at Carson City Community Center through July

Marietta Sophie Paul fills her prints and recycled-material collages with repeated patterns that create active scenes and narratives. Paul’s show will be in the Community Center’s Crowell Board Room, from March 6 through July 6, 2023. CCAI will host a reception for the artist on Thursday, March 30, 5:00 – 6:30PM with an artist introduction at 5:30PM. The Community Center is located at 851 E William Street, Carson City. The Crowell Board Room is open for all the city’s public meetings.

'Plastic Musings' art exhibition featured at Carson City Courthouse Gallery

Samuel Osheroff, artistically inspired by the chaos and beauty of the manufactured world, brings a variety of media together to express his ideas in his paintings. The Capital City Arts Initiative’s exhibition, "Plastic Musings", presents Samuel Osheroff’s mixed media compositions at the Carson City Courthouse Gallery from June 1 to Sept. 28, 2023. CCAI will host a reception for the artist on Wednesday, June 7, 5:00 - 6:30pm with the artist introduction at 5:30pm.

With Nevada’s primary elections approaching, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) reminds community members that political signage is not allowed on state highway property.

Federal regulations and Nevada state law prohibit political and advertising signage on public highway property, including but not limited to political signs, yard sale/event signs, and realtor or business signage.

It is important to know that state road property often extends beyond the roadside, fence line, or sidewalk of interstates, freeways, highways, and urban state roads/streets.

The application deadline for Mile High Band Association’s 2024 Jazz & Beyond Festival art contest is Friday, May 31. Northern Nevada artists, including teachers and students are invited to apply, and participation is free.

Selected entries in the competition will be used to promote the festival, and the winning entry will be featured on the festival’s advertising poster and program cover. Festival T-shirts may also feature the winning design.

The Sierra Nevada section of the Society of Women Engineers recognized several Carson City students and one teacher at the 2024 Night of STEM Star Awards in Reno, Friday, April 26.

The honorees were recognized for displaying remarkable talent and commitment in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). I usually whistle past the obituaries, but Larry Young caught my eye. He was a scientist who discovered Love Potion Number Nine. Yes, Larry unearthed a chemical that heightens desire, not that the world needs it. A drug that would diminish desire might do the world more good in the long run.

Today was a very productive day working in the yard. The cold weather kept me in far too long recently. I wanted to be outside. The temperature was perfect with a bright blue sky and little wind.
