Carson City arrests: Man jailed for narcotics faces additional drug charges

A 52-year-old man in custody at Carson City Jail on drug charges, had additional charges placed on him Saturday after the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team found drugs inside a room he had occupied.

The suspect was booked for felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the arrest report, SET officers were allowed into the home after a report of drug paraphernalia found in the man’s bedroom at a Gold Hill Drive residence.

A canine conducted a sniff of the bedroom and alerted to the presence of drugs. SET deputies found a cardboard box under a nightstand that contained around 25 hypodermic devices, tin foil and a sterile water dropper.

One of the syringes was full of about 30cc of a clear liquid that appeared to be liquified methamphetamine, the arrest report states. There were also several rubber tourniquets and baggies in the room as well.

Additional booking charges were placed on the suspect, who was already in custody at the Carson City Jail for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Bail: $3,637. The charges were later reduced to misdemeanors.

According to the arrest report, at around 1:14 a.m. a deputy observed a black Nissan sedan fail to maintain its lane and drove onto the sidewalk north of the Carson Street and Fifth Street intersection. The deputy initiated a traffic stop at Musser and Plaza streets.

The man identified himself using a Nevada driver’s license. While speaking, the deputy could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person, as well as red, watery eyes and slurred speech. The deputy checked for wants and warrants and learned the man was driving with a suspended registration and was under the supervision of the Department of Alternative Sentencing with a “no alcohol” condition, the arrest report states.

The man refused to answer questions and refused to participate in all field sobriety tests. He voluntarily and freely provided a preliminary breath test with a result of .202. He was arrested. At jail a phlebotomist collected two blood samples for evidentiary testing. Bail: $4,336.

The loss prevention officer showed a video to a deputy of the suspect exiting the store without paying for the items. While speaking with the loss prevention manager, another deputy located the white van with the same license plate at a motel in the 1700 block of North Carson Street.

The deputy learned the room where the man was staying and made contact with him, observing the same Golden State Warriors jacket he wore during the theft.

The suspect was read his Miranda warning and agreed to speak. He fully admitted his guilt and stated he was hungry and had not been paid yet by his employer.
