Carson City deputies make arrests for assault, fraud and felony warrants

A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for felony suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Jacob Andrew Watts was taken into custody at 2:33 p.m. in the 900 block of South Carson Street. According to the arrest report, a deputy was dispatched to a convenience store in the 700 block of South Carson Street regarding a subject who pulled a gun on another person.

The victim told officers the man pulled a gun on him and asked him if he wanted to die. The suspect, who had left the scene, was found in the 900 block of South Carson Street and detained. Officers searched his backpack and found a black bb gun pistol and a methamphetamine pipe.

The suspect was read his Miranda warning and agreed to speak. He stated the reporting party asked him for money and said the man had a knife in his hand. He stated he placed the bb gun on the dash of the vehicle and didn’t point it at the man. Officers were unable to locate a knife. Bail: $21,137.

In other arrests:
— A 25-year-old Carson City man, Jesus Medina, was arrested Monday, 1:34 a.m. in the 700 block Silver Oak Drive for felony suspicion, violation of parole and probation. According to the arrest report, deputies were called for a report of a fight between male subjects. A deputy spoke with both men and observed each had an odor of alcohol. One man was under supervision with the Department of Alternative Sentencing. He provided a preliminary breath sample of .145. He was arrested for violation, a misdemeanor.

The other man, Medina, is under supervision with Nevada Parole and Probation. He provided a breath same of .309 and was arrested for felony violation probation. He’s being held without bail in lieu of a hearing.

— A 31-year-old woman was arrested Sunday in the area of Industrial Park and Fairview for suspicion of four felonies including two counts using false identification to avoid prosecution, fraudulent use of a credit card and a fugitive from justice warrant. Amanda Victoria Whedbee of Placerville, also faces misdemeanor charges of driving on a suspended license, driving without insurance, expired registration and a contempt of court warrant. Bail: $41,446. A 32-year-old man with her, Anthony Conti, was also arrested for suspicion of providing false identification to avoid prosecution and a fugitive from justice warrant. Bail: $15,000.

— A 30-year-old Carson City man, Dale James Chodorowski, was arrested Sunday, 2:40 a.m. in the 400 block of North Curry Street for a felony warrant alleging parole absconder for burglary issued from the Superior Court of California. He’s being held without bail awaiting extradition.

— A 35-year-old Carson City man, Oscar Manuel Avino Tovar, was arrested Saturday, April 29, 6:57 p.m. in the 2700 block of Highway 50 East for two felony warrants alleging burglary and grand larceny issued April 25, 2016 out of Reno Justice Court. Bail: $30,000.

— A 32-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday, 8:27 p.m. in the area of Plaza and 7th Street for gross misdemeanor suspicion of second DUI. According to the arrest report, a deputy observed the woman driving recklessly, over-correcting and nearly crashing into a new construction area.

The vehicle accelerated, going 45 mph in a posted 25 mph zone. The officer activated his lights and sirens and the woman was stopped. The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the car and the woman was slurring her words. The officer also observed a 750 ml bottle of vodka that was 1/2 empty. She failed the field sobriety tests and offered a breath sample of .150. Bail: $2,637.

— A 21-year-old Silver Springs man was booked into Carson City Jail Sunday for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued March 23, 2017 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $500.

— A 40-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 5:05 p.m. in the area of Clear Creek Avenue for misdemeanor suspicion of battery. According to the arrest report, the suspect and his neighbor got into argument over music that was too loud.

The suspect, who complained of the loud music, allegedly hit his neighbor in the face with a dog leash and then punched him in the head several times. Bail: $1,137.

— A 61-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 7:27 p.m. in the 3300 block of Highway 50 East for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued Nov. 25, 2015 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,000.

— A 27-year-old Gardnerville man was booked Saturday, 1:15 p.m. into Carson City jail for a misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence warrant. Bail: $1,000.

Every day counts in a child’s education and School Attendance Matters. Chronic absenteeism has been defined as missing at least 10 percent of days in a school year for any reason, including excused and unexcused absences.

The Carson City School District has hovered around 25% chronic absenteeism. While most schools in the district don’t average as high as the overall rate, hearing about the alarming statistic has motivated a few community partners including Mayor Lori Bagwell.
