April events at Washoe Lake State Park feature hike, Easter egg hunt and bird watching
With spring underway, April events at Washoe Lake State Park north of Carson City in Washoe Valley include an evening hike, an Easter Egg Hunt, and a birdwatching program.
Evening Hike
Join park staff for an evening hike along the Deadman’s Creek Trail. This trail ends at a gazebo overlooking the Washoe Valley. Reservations are required for this hike and can be made by calling 775- 687-4319 or e-mailing wlsp@parks.nv.gov. Participants should wear sturdy hiking boots, dress in layers, and bring binoculars and a camera. The park entrance fee is $5 per vehicle. Please use the self-pay station at the park entrance; we are able to accept cash or check. There is no additional fee for this program.
WHEN: Wednesday, April 17, 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
WHERE: Meet at the Maze parking lot inside Washoe Lake State Park. Take Exit 44 from I-580 and drive north on Eastlake Blvd. approximately four miles. The park entrance is on the left. Turn left past the fee booth and it’s the first parking lot on the right.
Easter Egg Hunt
Fun for all ages! The South Valley Volunteer Fire Department is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt in the park. The Easter Bunny arrives at noon and the hunt starts at 12:30 p.m. sharp. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Park entrance is free for this event.
WHEN: Saturday, April 20, 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.
WHERE: This event will be held at the Group Use Area inside the park. Take Exit 44 from I-580 and drive north on Eastlake Blvd. approximately four miles. The park entrance is on the left. Turn left past the fee booth and it’s the 2nd parking lot on the right. Additional parking is available; please plan to arrive early, as parking spots fill up fast.
Basic Birdwatching
Meet in the Day Use Area for this introduction to birdwatching! Limited pairs of binoculars and bird guides will be available, but feel free to bring your own. We have seen Northern Flickers, European Starlings, Magpies, Killdeer, Kestrels, Bullock's Oriols, and more in the park. The park entrance fee is $5 per vehicle. Please use the self-pay station at the park entrance; we are able to accept cash or check. There is no additional fee for this program.
WHEN: Sunday, April 28, 9 a.m. – 10 a.m.
WHERE: Meet at the boat ramp inside Washoe Lake State Park. Take Exit 44 from I-580 and drive north on Eastlake Blvd. approximately four miles. The park entrance is on the left. Turn left past the fee booth and it’s the 3rd driveway on the right.
