The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in a vehicle burglary on Kingsley Lane in Carson City.

Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn appointed Sherry Rupert to be executive director of the Nevada Indian Commission in September of 2005. SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A South Lake Tahoe man was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge John A. Mendez to one year and one day in prison and ordered to pay $113,000 in restitution for two counts of excavation and removal of archaeological resources from public lands and one misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of methamphetamine, U.S. Attorney McGregor W. The Carson City Sheriff's Office was alerted late Tuesday morning to an explosive device that was left at the administration building by a person who wanted to dispose it. The device was carried outside by Sheriff Ken Furlong.

A 45-year-old man was arrested Monday in the parking lot of a North Carson Street supermarket for allegedly stealing a snowplow and taking it for a ride while the vehicle owner was in a restaurant having lunch, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — The stories about February's massive snowfall at Lake Tahoe keep coming in. The latest involves a snow removal operator who struck a vehicle he didn't see that was completely buried in the snow. What comes next was beyond a surprise.

Multiple power outages are being reported early Monday afternoon around Carson City and Douglas County due to a weather system that prompted a High Wind Warning earlier this morning for much of the region. Meanwhile, wind gusts flipped two vehicles on I-580 north of Carson City in Washoe Valley late Monday morning causing some traffic delays.

CARSON CITY — A slew of interesting bills and presentations are ahead this week. A bill to establish the Stewart Indian School museum is on the move Monday. Also on Monday, lawmakers will consider raising the maximum age of a “runaway or homeless youth” from 18 to 24. A physician assisted suicide bill will be heard Monday afternoon.

A woman who says she was sex trafficked through a Nevada brothel filed a federal lawsuit Monday that seeks to overturn the state’s legalized prostitution in rural counties.

CARSON CITY — The Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada received sweatshirts for every member of their Carson City and Carson Valley locations thanks to local donors Phil and Penny Wright, longtime Carson Valley residents, NV Energy and Carson Dermatology; and new 20 winter coats for children identified as in need in Douglas County from the East Fork Professional Firefighters Association.

A 24-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 9:25 p.m. for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, and three counts being in possession of a firearm while under the influence, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

CARSON CITY — Carson Tahoe Health is pleased to announce the generous multi-year pledge of $800,000, by the Mallory Foundation to allow for expansion of Carson Tahoe’s Mallory Behavioral Health Crisis Center, more than doubling the center’s capacity for treatment.

The Carson City School District’s quarterly Community Professional Learning Community meeting, Wednesday, Feb. 27, 6 p.m., will focus on sustainable practices. The meeting, held inside the Carson High School Library, will be the first part of a 1.5-day Executive Sustainability Summit.

Normally at this time of year I would be reminding folks to water trees if we haven’t had significant precipitation. Watering now would be an exercise in futility. I’m writing this after 24 inches of snow fell at our house, then three to five inches of rain, followed by another inch of snow, with no end in sight.

Carson Middle School's annual Chili Bingo Night takes place this Friday, March 1, in the school's gym. The event begins at 6 p.m. Proceeds from this fundraiser go to Carson Middle School Band program which is raising money for new instruments, storage space, and upgraded percussion.
