Heavenly and Northstar delay opening dates due to warm conditions

With recent warm temperatures in the Lake Tahoe region, Vail Resorts announced Wednesday they have delayed their targeted opening days at both Heavenly Mountain Resort and Northstar California Resort.

Prescribed fires to continue this week at Lake Tahoe, smoke possible in the valleys

The Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team is scheduled to continue prescribed fire operations over the next several weeks at Lake Tahoe, conditions and weather permitting. Recent precipitation and low temperatures have provided ideal conditions and opportunities for firefighters to burn in multiple locations.

Capitol City Gun Club Turkey Shoot happening Sunday

We were without power, water or heat for five days. That was followed by flooding, which provided our annual rainfall in one week.

Forest Service pile burning begins in Douglas, Washoe, Alpine and Mono counties

As part of Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s hazardous fuels reduction efforts, both Carson and Bridgeport Ranger Districts’ fire crews will conduct pile burning beginning in October through May, weather and fuel conditions permitting.

I was thinking that autumn was supposed to be a slower time of year for landscape and gardening chores. I have so many tasks lined up, I don’t know where to begin — fertilize the lawns, shut down the garden, finish picking apples, prune trees, decide whether to deadhead perennials or not, shut down the irrigation system, and winterize the tools and machines.

This morning there was an annular solar eclipse. The clips started about 8:05 a.m. and lasted for a couple of hours. The pictures are part of a series and were taken at 10 minute intervals. The GIF file is a combination of the series. Although the start was shrouded in cloud cover, the majority of the eclipse was pretty clear.
