National initiative to increase access to nature for youth across the Silver State

The Nevada Division of Outdoor Recreation is proud to announce its selection for the Nature Everywhere initiative, a national program aimed at expanding equitable access to nature for children throughout the state.

Youth Wildlife Conservation Experience happening Jan. 20 at Reno-Sparks Convention Center

This year's Youth Wildlife Conservation Experience will take place at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center on Jan. 20, 2024. This is a free family event. The goal is simple, to excite and inspire the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts.

Simply bring your family down to Hall 4 and the F-Meeting Rooms of the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, 4590 South Virginia street in Reno for hours of educational fun. Event runs from 10am to 4pm. A quick registration takes place on site, just show up the day of the event.

Heavenly ski resort at Tahoe to open Tuesday, Northstar follows Thursday; Kirkwood Dec. 1

After a slight delay due to warm weather that was followed up over the weekend with light snow showers and much cooler conditions, Heavenly Mountain Resort at Lake Tahoe announced it will be open for skiing Tuesday, Nov. 21, with Northstar California to follow Thanksgiving day. Kirkwood Mountain Resort is scheduled for Dec. 1, conditions permitting.

Carson Ranger District opens firewood cutting near Markleeville

The Carson Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is opening a public fuelwood area near Markleeville, Calif., in Alpine County. Cut logs are decked at various locations within the Tamarack Restoration Project area, primarily in the Pleasant Valley Road and Thornburg Canyon.
