Valley rain and mountain snow is in the forecast through much of Saturday morning, as a precipitation band makes its way through the region.

Unsettled weather will continue to drive through the Sierra, Lake Tahoe and Carson City region through Sunday with rain and snow showers but nothing significant or heavy. The biggest surge will arrive Tuesday into Wednesday when a deep system pushes into the West. Post holiday travel will be impact by winter conditions across Sierra passes, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

As for today, Saturday, wind advisories along the Sierra Front and a Winter Weather Advisory for the Lake Tahoe Basin will continue through at least this morning. Winds will diminish below advisory criteria by 10 a.m. but will remain breezy through this afternoon and into the evening.

The Winter Weather Advisory for Lake Tahoe will also expire by 10 a.m. Area web cams show some travel impact due to slippery roads above 7,000 feet. If you’re headed to the slopes, extra caution should be exercised if driving to the Sierra, the weather service advises.

On Sunday, a travel day for those returning from Thanksgiving holiday, motorists can expect some snow showers over mountain passes and rain in the valleys.
