Joined by his family, Carson City District Attorney Garrit Pruyt officially filed to be elected  as Carson City’s newest Justice of the Peace in Department III.

Garrit joined the District  Attorney’s Office in 2015 as a prosecutor and, following several promotions, was ultimately  appointed by the Board of Supervisors to the office of District Attorney.

Ever passionate about the law, DA Pruyt has spent his career prosecuting cases in the  Carson City Justice Court, working to keep our community safe.

Pruyt noted that “Serving  as a judge is about applying the law thoughtfully, protecting constitutional rights, and  ensuring equal justice for all.”

The Justice Court plays a critical role in public safety and is  not only responsible for small claims actions, protective orders, and bail determinations  but also oversees complex preliminary hearings for serious felony offenses like murder and  sexual assault.

He added, “Every victim and every defendant who enters a courtroom  deserves the same fundamental assurance: that their case will be heard by a  knowledgeable, fair, and impartial judge.”

Pruyt concluded, “I will leverage my years of experience, knowledge of the law, integrity,  and commitment to equal justice for all to ensure that victims’ rights are upheld and that  every court participant is treated with respect.”
