Maggie Lagunas-Anthony is this week’s Carson High School Silver Campus Senior Spotlight. Maggie’s dedication and inspiring journey of self-discovery and advocacy make her a standout senior with a clear vision for the future.
Maggie has charted a determined course for her post-high school life. Her immediate goal is to attend Western Nevada College for two years to earn an Associate of Science degree. From there, she plans to transfer to a four-year university to complete a degree in forensic science.
Maggie sees herself having a rewarding law enforcement career in criminal forensic science. This career path is driven by a lifelong intrigue with criminal investigations and is motivated by the desire to be part of a team that solves challenging crimes and brings closure to people affected by traumatic events.
When she isn’t focused on her studies or her new job, Maggie spends her spare time engaging in creative pursuits like arts and crafts and puzzles. She also has a deep love for the winter mountains and hopes to get back into skiing.
Maggie’s success is built on a simple yet profound realization: the ability to ask for help. She recounts how, during middle school and early high school, a lack of confidence prevented her from seeking assistance, as she felt people wouldn’t want to take the time to show her how to improve.
She now credits the teachers at Carson High School Silver Campus with helping her break that perception and teaching her the vital life skill of advocating for herself.
Maggie’s excellence has also been recognized through her involvement in Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG), where she currently holds the vice president officer position. She will be attending an all-state gathering this spring where she will compete against other JAG program students.
Maggie credits several individuals with helping her build self-confidence and achieve success. She highlights her math teacher, Mrs. Gingrich, for being the first to show her that people are willing to help if you put in the effort.
Former CHS-Silver campus English teacher, Mrs. Walker, played a crucial role in challenging her public speaking skills. Mrs. Walker’s belief in her capabilities encouraged Maggie to push past her discomfort with presentations, leading to a point where Maggie now genuinely enjoys speaking in front of people.
Maggie is deeply appreciative of the comforting, positive attitude and care her teachers at Carson High School’s Silver Campus have provided. This supportive environment fostered her confidence in people, which in turn gave her confidence in herself.
The staff at CHS-Silver Campus is confident that Maggie Lagunas-Anthony will be successful in her quest, and they all look forward to seeing the significant accomplishments that await her after she graduates.
