UPDATE: Carson City Public Works will begin paving operations on the East William Street Project on Saturday, June 20, marking a major milestone in the corridor improvement project. Paving work is expected to continue through Friday, July 10.

Work will take place along East William Street between Carson Street and Roop Street. Crews will mill and excavate the existing roadway before installing 11 inches of new road base topped with 6 inches of asphalt pavement.
“This is a significant milestone that marks an important turning point for the project,” said Darren Anderson, City Engineer. “For the past year, we’ve been working on essential underground improvements. Now that work is complete and we can shift our attention to the roadway and begin delivering the visible improvements the community has been waiting for. We appreciate everyone’s continued patience as crews complete this work.”
To accommodate paving operations and limit impacts to drivers, traffic patterns and road closures will change throughout the project area:

June 20-26
- William Street will be fully closed to both eastbound and westbound traffic between Carson Street and Roop Street.
- Stewart Street will remain open to northbound and southbound traffic through the William Street intersection.
- All other connecting side streets will be closed at William Street.
- Carson Street and Roop Street intersections will remain open.

June 27-July 2
- William Street will be fully closed to both eastbound and westbound traffic between Carson Street and Roop Street.
- All connecting northbound and southbound side streets will be closed.
- Carson Street and Roop Street intersections will remain open.

July 6-10
- The Carson Street/William Street and Roop Street/William Street intersections will be fully closed to traffic.
- Mills Park remains open and accessible from William Street.
No construction work will occur during the Independence Day holiday. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow all posted traffic control signage. Access to businesses and residences will be maintained.
Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen conditions.
Paving on the second half of the project, William Street between Roop Street and I-580, is expected later this summer. For updates on the East William Street Project, residents are encouraged to monitor Carson City Public Works communications channels.
