It is becoming more likely that weather conditions will match up in time for the Fall Equinox on Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service. A significant pattern change is on tap for Wednesday and Thursday as a cold front and an upper level low push through the area.
A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Wednesday as gusty winds are expected to continue after arriving in the region Tuesday. Winds will be from the southwest, 15 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph with humidity between 10 and 20 percent.
The forecast calls for much colder temperatures across the Sierra and western Nevada. For Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, daytime highs Wednesday will be in the mid-70s and by Thursday, the first day of the fall, the high will be around 60 with night time lows in the upper 30s. Friday will be a little warmer with a forecast high of 70 and night time low of 41. Saturday will be in the upper 70s with the lower 80s in the forecast by Sunday.
There is also potential for frost in some locations in the Sierra and western Nevada. The weather service advises that if you’re camping or hiking late Wednesday into Thursday, be prepared for light rain and snow showers above 7,000 feet, although little to no accumulation of snow is anticipated.
