A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the parking lot of a South Carson Street fast food restaurant after crashing their car and reportedly fighting the other driver.

Just after 4 p.m. Christmas Day, deputies were dispatched on report of a two-vehicle crash and that the drivers had engaged in a physical fight and bystanders were keeping them apart.

Upon arrival, deputies observed a Subaru with front-end damage blocking the northbound travel lane on S. Carson Street and a Dodge Ram with a flat right rear tire parked in the fast-food parking lot.

Deputies spoke with witnesses on scene who reported they saw the truck make a turn into the fast-food parking lot while traveling northbound, and the Subaru driver hit the truck while traveling south on S. Carson Street. The witness said they heard the Subaru driver was possibly intoxicated.

The driver of the truck said they were attempting to turn into the fast-food parking lot and “did not see the Subaru until it was too late,” and tried to speed up. He said he believed the Subaru driver was speeding.

The Subaru driver said he was traveling at around 30 mph southbound when the truck driver turned in front of him.

Deputies noted they did not see any immediate signs of impairment from either party.

However, while conducting the tow sheet of the Subaru driver’s vehicle, deputies noted they detected an odor of alcohol emanating from his person.

They asked if he had been drinking, and he said he had not. He said he’d had family over, and they had been drinking. Deputies asked if he’d be willing to undergo field sobriety tests, and he said he would “do whatever he needed to do.”

During the field sobriety testing, deputies reported that the Subaru driver showed multiple signs of impairment.

Following the tests, deputies asked if he would submit to a preliminary breath test, and he refused.

He was taken into custody and his vehicle was towed to the impound yard, according to the report.

A warrant was requested for the driver’s blood, which was granted at around 5:22 p.m.

He was booked into the jail without issue for DUI first.

Bail: $1,137
