Carson Now is withholding the names of the suspects to protect the identities of the juveniles. Arrested was a 34-year-old man and 41-year-old woman. Both were booked for alleged child abuse/neglect. Both suspects were also booked for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The woman was also booked for a misdemeanor bench warrant.
According to the booking report, on Sunday at 12:56 p.m., CCSO was attempting a warrant service in the 1900 block of North Carson Street. A sergeant contacted an individual sitting in his car outside of a motel. The male handed the sergeant a bulbous pipe with a white crystalline substance and was arrested. During an incident search of him deputies located a tooter straw (used for inhaling drugs) and small baggies containing suspected drugs.
He was placed into the back of a patrol vehicle. The suspect stated the woman was with his children inside their motel apartment and that she was sleeping. During a search of the man’s vehicle, officers located a marijuana grinder on the front passenger side of the vehicle containing marijuana, a blue bong-like object on the front passenger side of the vehicle and other drug paraphernalia, the report states.
Officers made contact with the woman at the motel room. A male juvenile answered the door and yelled “the cops are here” to which the woman stated she was coming. The woman allowed deputies inside the room and observed the floors were extremely sticky when walking on them. There was a pile of clothes near the front door. The bathroom was messy with towels and clothing on the floor. On the northwest side of the room there were stacks of boxes. Deputies observed there were two beds and a cot with foam padding on the north side of the room. The bathroom sink had dishes in it that were clean. There was very little room to walk around the room as all the walls in the room had something against them, the report states.
Deputies observed a small coin purse that contained a cylindrical stem with a bulbous end and white crystalline substance inside, a small baggie with white crystalline residue and a small baggie with clear crystalline substance.
The woman’s name was run through dispatch, which returned with an active warrant out of Carson City Justice Court. Deputies read the woman her Miranda warning, in which she stated she understood. The sergeant conducted an interview with the woman, who had provided consent to search the room.
The woman stated she knew the male suspect smoked in the bathroom with the children around. She also stated she knew he went out to the car for a smoke. She stated she goes to a friend’s house to smoke, the report states.
During the search the following was located: Red case with sparkles containing presumptive methamphetamine in the bathroom. The red case was sitting on top of a set of black and clear storage shelves. Two marijuana bowls were found in the medicine cabinet of the bathroom. A marijuana grinder with marijuana inside was located on the counter near the microwave. There was a brown and white container with marijuana inside the nightstand in the southwest corner of the room.
Deputies spoke with the juveniles and later with the male suspect at the detention center. Bail for the male suspect: $50,000. Bail for the female suspect, $25,000.

— A 41-year-old Dayton woman was arrested Friday for suspicion of four counts child abuse or neglect and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Carson Now is withholding the name of the woman to protect the juvenile victims. According to the booking report, a Special Enforcement Team deputy made a traffic stop at around 7 p.m. in the 3200 block of Retail Drive after seeing that the vehicle didn’t have a registration plate attached to the license plate.
The deputy made contact with the woman and informed her of the reason for the stop and requested her driver’s license, registration and insurance. The deputy noticed three female juveniles and a male juvenile in the vehicle. The driver, who appeared nervous, was able to provide her license and insurance but was unable to give her current registration card. The deputy requested the woman exit the vehicle in which she complied. The deputy asked if she would give the deputy consent to search the vehicle in which she denied. The deputy again asked if she had her current registration card. She said no. The deputy requested a K9 unit to respond to assist with the traffic stop.
The deputy checked the driver’s license status for warrants. She returned clear. The deputy began to issue a citation for driving without a front plate and for not keeping the current registration documents in her vehicle. The deputy informed her that he would be issuing her a warning citation for the violations.
As the deputy was working on the citation, they asked her if she had consumed any illegal drugs in the past. She stated she just used marijuana but no longer does any drugs.
As the deputy was issuing the citation, a detective and another deputy arrived on scene to assist. The deputy conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle with their K9 partner in which the K9 provided a positive alert. A detective pointed out the driver had two “track” marks on her neck. Based on the deputy’s training and experience, the “track” marks are scars, bruises or scabs left by need injections. Drug users tend to inject illegal drugs to obtain a quicker high, the report notes.
The detective took photos prior to searching the vehicle. In the driver’s seat area the detective found a hypodermic needle. The detective tested the needle using Nartech, which returned positive for methamphetamine. The woman told the deputy she lied and the only thing she had was marijuana and she pulled out a marijuana vape pen from her pocket. In addition to the hypodermic needle, the detective located a marijuana pipe in the center console, the report states.
Deputies read the woman her Miranda warning. She said said she didn’t like talking. The deputy told her at the time she was being arrested. The deputy asked her how long she had been clean from using methamphetamine. She said for about two years.
The deputy asked her when she used to use drugs and how she would consume them. She stated she would smoke. The deputy asked to be truthful. The woman stated she thinks she last used the previous Monday or three days ago. She later admitted to injecting methamphetamine but it was a long time ago, the report states.
She asked if she was incriminating herself. The deputy read her Miranda warning again. The deputy asked her about the hypodermic needle that tested positive for methamphetamine. She stated it was old. She later stated she stopped using methamphetamine but began using it in January, however she has stopped injecting and only smokes it. She said began using methamphetamine in her mid 20s. The deputy asked who the vehicle belongs to. She stated it is her vehicle and she is the only one who drives it, the report states.
Deputies spoke with the four juveniles and concluded that based on the circumstances, all four juveniles were placed in an environment where they can easily be exposed to illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia, potentially causing physical or mental harm, the report states. Due to the easy accessibility of the paraphernalia and statements by the suspect indicating ongoing exposure to illegal drug-related items in the vehicle, the suspect was booked for four counts of child endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia, the report states.
The hypodermic needle and marijuana pipe were collected and booked into evidence. The report notes the hypodermic needle still contained blood and did not appear to be old. Both items were photographed and booked into evidence. All four children were released to the suspect’s father. The case was forwarded to the Department of Child and Family Services.
