First place, Don Kurtz, "Madina Beach Sunrise."

Between a rock and a hard place is where local photographers set out to discover their own unique stones, finding them in the midst of incredible natural settings as part of this month’s Carson City Photo Club competition task.

With “rocks” as the theme for May, there were six winning photos this month, including a tie for third place. The winners are:

First Place: “Madina Beach Sunrise” Don Kurtz (see above.)

Second Place: “The Kissing Rock” Jessi Brendel

Third Place: “Sand Harbor” Jim Donato

Third Place: “Sandstone Stripes” Carol Grenier

Third Place: “Shimmering” Sara Danta

Winner’s Choice: “Under the Weight of Stone” Felicia Sotomayor

The Carson City Photo Club meets at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month except December, at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Ormsby Room. Those attending should use the west entrance. All levels of photographers are welcome. The theme for June is “Rainbows.”
