The nights are chilly but the fall days still warm up nicely (usually), In Carson City. Treadway Park is a quiet small gem of a park next to the Carson Tahoe Care Center (The “old” hospital ) and Carson Behavioral Health.

The park is close to where William Street ends west at Minnesota. Easy parking access is at 775 Fleischmann Street next to the hospital. Treadway Park is named in honor of a pioneer Carson City man, Aaron Treadway, who had a 10-acre ranch at this location.

In 1866 he opened the ranch for public use for picnics and get togethers. Mr. Treadway was a friendly host, and the V&T Train Line was close by. The Virginia and Truckee Railroad dropped off Treadway Park visitors at a nearby rail stop location. Many people rode down on the train to Treadway Park from Virginia City, Gold Hill and Empire. Treadway was born in Connecticut in 1815, and died in Carson City in 1903.

Here is more information about Carson City Pioneer Aaron Treadway, courtesy of Carsonopedia:
“He planted many cottonwoods on the property, which quickly grew to a large size and provided shade for his ranch. Several of these trees still survive today, including the Nevada Bicentennial Tree. In 1866 he opened part of his ranch to the public.

Treadway was known as a genial soul and quite a character, and a very popular host. The V&T Railroad ran right by the front gates of his park, and trainloads of people were always disembarking to spend a day underneath the cottonwoods. Most everyone in town came to know “Uncle Tred” in this way, as he would try to greet each and every guest who entered his property.”
