A 40-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the 20th block of College Parkway for battery with a deadly weapon against an elder and assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly throwing multiple rocks at a neighbor during an argument.
According to the arrest report, Teena Acosta was arrested on the two felony charges after deputies were dispatched to an apartment complex on report of a neighbor dispute. The reporting party said one of the people in the argument was a mom of a juvenile that “had problems.” They said the mom had threatened the neighbor and may have thrown something, but they weren’t sure.
Deputies arrived on the scene and spoke with the mother, identified as Acosta.
According to the reporting deputy, Acosta told deputies “a kid” told her that a lady, later identified as the victim, was recording them while they were in a common grassy area of the apartment complex. Acosta said she went up to confront the woman and knocked on her door.
She told deputies she asked the woman why she was recording kids, and the woman closed the door on her. She said she walked downstairs, and the woman walked out onto her patio and told Acosta she was “going to beat her up.” Acosta said that she and the woman got into a verbal argument which turned physical when Acosta threw two big rocks at the woman with the intent to hit her.
She said one of the rocks she threw hit the siding of the balcony, but the other made it over the siding. She said she didn’t know the woman’s name, and just referred to her as the “old lady.”
While speaking with Acosta, the reporting deputy said there were multiple rocks on the ground around them that were the size of softballs, and they said Acosta confirmed those were approximately the size of the rocks she threw.
Deputies went and spoke with the victim who told them she’d been inside her apartment when someone knocked “loud and hard” on her door. She said she opened the door and saw Acosta, and Acosta started to yell at her, so she closed and locked her door.
She said she walked out to her balcony and argued with Acosta, and said she was going to beat her up. She said she stayed on her balcony while Acosta threw 4-5 rocks. She said one of the rocks struck her lower leg, but the deputies said they did not see any visible injury. They said the one rock they saw on the balcony was about the size of a sand dollar, and noted the balcony had large spaces between the planks that rocks fell through. The victim said they did not wish to press charges.
Deputies took Acosta into custody without issue, and she was booked on the two felony charges.
Bail: $50,000
