It’s official now and it was made possible by the citizens of Carson City and a community of caring volunteers. Carson City broke ground Wednesday on its Animal Services facility with plenty of praise, rounds of applause and a sincere thank you from the Carson Animal Service Initiatives, also known as CASI, whose volunteers spent thousands of hours to make the shelter a reality.

Attending the ceremony Carson City Public Works officials, the City Board of Supervisors, Carson Animal Services Initiative, and representatives of the Nevada Humane Society.

The facility will be located on Airport Road in Carson City, south of the intersection of Airport Road and Butti Way.
The new facility will replace the current shelter on Butti Way, which was built in the 1960’s. The new facility will be approximately 10,000 square feet and will accommodate 134 dogs, 104 cats and seven exotics. Shaheen Beauchamp has been hired as the general contractor of the new facility.

Funding for the shelter came from revenue from a 1/8 percent sales tax and donations from Nevada Humane Society and CASI. The Nevada Humane Society will operate the new facility upon its completion.
