The legacy of Nevada’s mining industry continues to inspire the mining community today.

The Friends of Sutro Tunnel Charity is proud to announce a $10,000 donation from Hudbay Minerals in support of the ongoing restoration and preservation of the historic Sutro Tunnel & Site in Dayton, Nev.

Hudbay Minerals’ Mason Project is located in the historic Yerington Mining District, an area with a long and significant history of mining dating back to the 1800s. Today, Hudbay is advancing the Mason Project while continuing to engage with communities and stakeholders throughout the region.

For Friends of Sutro Tunnel, support from a modern mining company carries special meaning. The Sutro Tunnel represents an important chapter in Nevada’s mining story and the innovation, determination and vision of the pioneers who helped shape the state.

“Preserving Nevada’s mining heritage is a shared responsibility, and the work being done at the Sutro Tunnel is truly exceptional. Hudbay is proud to contribute $10,000 toward restoring this incredible piece of history and keeping the legacy of Nevada’s mining pioneers alive.”

Chantae Lessard, Head of the Mason Project, Hudbay Minerals

The donation reflects a shared commitment to preserving the history of mining while helping future generations understand the people, technology and ingenuity that built Nevada’s mining communities.

“The Sutro Tunnel is more than an historic structure — it is a tangible connection to Nevada’s mining past and an opportunity to educate future generations about the role mining has played in our state,” said Helaine Jesse, Major Gifts Officer with Friends of Sutro Tunnel Charity. “We are incredibly grateful to Hudbay Minerals and Chantae Lessard for recognizing the importance of preserving this story.”

Hudbay Minerals’ $10,000 donation is an investment not only in a historic site, but in the preservation of Nevada’s mining story. As the state’s mining industry continues to evolve, partnerships like this help ensure that the accomplishments of those who came before us are not forgotten. The Mason Project is part of Hudbay’s Nevada growth pipeline, and Hudbay has recently begun pre-feasibility study activities for the project.

Friends of Sutro Tunnel is grateful to Hudbay Minerals for helping carry the legacy of Nevada mining forward — preserving history and building legacy for generations to come.
