SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. — Lyon County Animal Services is pleased to announce that it has received a generous $25,000 donation from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous. The donation will help cover spay and neuter costs and reduce adoption fees to just $50.
The donation comes nearly a month after Lyon County Animal Services issued an urgent plea to the community as the shelter reached a critical level of overcrowding. Lyon County Animal Services operates with 36 dog kennels and 8 quarantine kennels. At the height of the recent overcrowding, the shelter was caring for 69 dogs, while more than 60 additional dogs were on the surrender list waiting to come into the shelter.
The community response was immediate. Within just one week of Animal Services’ announcement, 35 dogs left the shelter, helping to open three kennels and providing dozens of animals with the opportunity to begin the next chapter of their lives.
However, the need has not gone away. Lyon County Animal Services continues to take in stray animals, while nearly 60 dogs remain on the waitlist for space to become available.
Lyon County Animal Services encourages anyone who has been considering adding a pet to their family to visit the shelter and consider adoption. Those who cannot adopt can still make a tremendous difference by fostering, volunteering or helping spread the word about animals looking for homes.
