A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday for suspicion of gross misdemeanor tampering with a vehicle causing damage after deputies investigated a vehicle that had two taillights smashed and a witness who said they saw what happened.
According to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report, deputies were dispatched at 7:08 a.m. to the area West 4th and Mary Street for a vehicle tampering. Dispatch advised the reporting party (RP) saw the male suspect break a vehicle window and then took off running.
Dispatch advised the suspect was wearing a black shirt with logo and gray shorts. Dispatch also stated the man was last seen on Iris and 4th Street on foot. Dispatch stated the victim vehicle was a maroon Corolla. Dispatch then advised the suspect was seen running southbound on Mary Street from Angus Street.
A deputy arrived and was flagged down by several people who were pointing to a man who matched the RPs description, walking away from them on foot. The deputy activated their overhead lights and told the suspect to stop. The suspect stopped and was holding a sweatshirt in his hands and was sweating, the report states.
The deputy told the suspect to drop the sweatshirt, in which he didn’t drop it. He attempted to hand the deputy the sweatshirt. The deputy took it and dropped it on the ground. The deputy told the suspect to put his hands up, then told him to turn around and put his hands on his back, the report states.
The suspect refused to obey commands. The deputy attempted to detain the suspect and told him he was under arrest. The suspect still did not obey. The deputy attempted to grab both of his hands to place them in handcuffs. The man pulled away from the deputy’s grasp multiple times, according to the report. The officer then took the suspect to the ground with their leg, tripping him. Still resisting, the man was struck in the torso to get him to lower his hands. Another deputy arrived and both were able to get the man cuffed.
During the investigation, in which the witness statements were taken, officers located the damaged vehicle parked on the street in front of a 5th Street residence. Both rear taillights were smashed in what appeared to be a rock thrown at them. A deputy spoke with the owner who advised they wished to press charges. Dispatch also advised the suspect was on Department of Alternative Sentencing, which later advised they wanted the man placed on hold.
He was taken to jail and read his Miranda warning. He chose not to speak. He was booked for suspicion of tampering with a motor vehicle, obstructing and resisting a public officer and the DAS hold. Bail: $3,000 cash.
In other arrests:
— A 57-year-old Carson City man, Jimi Lee Holman, was arrested Saturday for a felony fugitive from justice warrant issued out of Santa Barbara, Calif. No bail hold awaiting extradition.
— A man and woman were arrested Saturday for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. During the investigation, officers located methamphetamine, hallucinogenic mushrooms and paraphernalia. Bail: $2,500 each.
— A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,000.
— A 58-year-old man, Fred Levine, was arrested Saturday for a felony warrant alleging felony indecent exposure. Deputies located the man in the 2100 block of East William Street after there was a report of a shirtless man on the ground near urine and feces.
Deputies arrived and made contact with Levine. He stated he would leave. The deputy checked the man through dispatch and learned he had a confirmed felony warrant for indecent exposure in the presence of a child or vulnerable person through Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $2,500.
— A 62-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday for suspicion violation of probation. She provided a positive drug test on Sept. 1 and failed to test as directed on Sept. 11. No bail hold in lieu of hearing.
