UPDATE: According to Carson City Sheriff’s Undersheriff Jim Primka, CCSO dispatch received a 911 call with the caller threatening to do violence at the high school, then the sounds of what appeared to be gun fire.
Carson High School is currently on lockdown and deputies are sweeping the school to be sure, but this does not appear to be an active shooter event and is more than likely the result of “swatting” — a prank phone call intended to direct large responses from law enforcement to a specific location, said Undersheriff Primka.
Deputies will remain on scene until the school is completely cleared. Sierra Lutheran is also clear at this time, but Douglas County is handling that portion of the investigation, said Primka.
NHP is on scene, traffic is blocked at the school.
The Carson City School District has released the following information: “There is NO active threat at Carson High School. Just before the end of the school day, Carson High School received a call about a threat of violence. CHS was placed in lockdown. Carson City Sheriff’s Office immediately responded and continue to conduct sweeps of the building and perimeter grounds. CHS will remain in lockdown until that is complete.”
Bus transportation for middle and elementary school students will happen at the regularly scheduled time. When dropoffs are complete, buses will return to CHS (estimated at 3:45pm) to pickup and transport students to their regular dropoffs.”

Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputies responded Monday afternoon to a report of threats to Carson High School and at Sierra Lutheran High School. Arriving deputies on scene report there were no shots fired, however the school was placed on lock-down as CCSO deputies are going through buildings.
At this time CCSO is investigating a “possible prank.”
The call came in at around 1:45 p.m.
Deputies also have responded to Sierra Lutheran High School and are on scene investigating. Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies have also responded. Sierra Lutheran is reporting there’s no emergency at the school, according to dispatch.
According to dispatch scanner traffic, CCSO deputies responding report the call was a “possible prank.”
