Over the past several days, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office received numerous anonymous tips from members of the public regarding 57-year-old Christopher Gayland Short, a Tier III registered sex offender.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Task Force initiated an investigation and determined that Short was registered as working in Lyon County while residing in Sparks, Nevada. During the investigation, task force members also determined that Short had failed to complete a required verification of his sex offender registration information with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office in July 2026.
At approximately 3:45 p.m. today, members of the Sex Offender Task Force contacted Short at his place of employment in the 700 block of Mull Lane in Fernley. Short was taken into custody without incident.
Short was booked into the Lyon County Jail on one felony count of Violation of Sex Offender Registration Requirements and one felony count related to a violation of the conditions of his parole or probation. He is currently being held without bail.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the community members who took the time to provide information regarding Short’s status and whereabouts. Information provided by the public assisted task force members in locating Short and furthering the investigation. Community involvement continues to be an important part of identifying potential registration violations and promoting public safety.
