A Carson City jury convicted a man Tuesday for his role in the June 1, 2015 armed robbery of a Carson City woman after he and an alleged accomplice followed her from a casino to her home, stealing her purse at gunpoint.
Jac Owen, 25, of Carson City was found guilty of robbery with a deadly weapon committed on a person age 60 or older, and conspiracy to commit a robbery. The six-day trial was prosecuted by Carson City Deputy District Attorney Melanie Brantingham in District Court Dept. 2 with Judge James E. Wilson presiding.
The robbery happened after the two men allegedly targeted the woman while she was at a casino. Owen faces 2 to 15 years on the robbery charge with an additional 1-20 for elderly enhancements and one to 6 years for conspiracy. Sentencing will be Oct. 4.
Owen’s alleged accomplice, Ricky Adams, 30, will go to trial Jan. 30, 2017 on the same charges as Owen.
In the robbery, the pair are accused of following the victim from Casino Fandango to her Sonoma Street residence just after 3 a.m. When the victim’s vehicle pulled into the driveway, the two approached the woman, in which Adams allegedly pointed a pistol at her, demanded money, threatening to shoot her. Owen took the victim’s purse from the woman’s vehicle where both fled in a pickup.
Owen was arrested June 11 at a Jumbo Way home on three unrelated outstanding felony warrants. Adams, 30, was arrested June 19 after investigators received an anonymous tip that he was hiding inside a car.
