A 58-year-old Carson City man was arrested for domestic battery, felony prevention of a victim from calling 911, violation of a suspended sentence, and violation of bail or pretrial supervision.
Jeffery Gallup was arrested after deputies were dispatched on report of a domestic battery just after 1 p.m. in the area of Kingsley Lane and Hillview Drive.
According to the arrest report, when deputies arrived they spoke to the victim who had obvious bruising on their right arm above their wrist.
They told deputies they’d been talking to Gallup on the phone, and he was intoxicated. They were questioning Gallup about the fact that some items were missing from the victim’s home, and Gallup became angry and hung up.
The victim then attempted to call their minor child, who was with Gallup, and Gallup would not let the child speak with the victim.
The victim went to Gallup’s home to retrieve the child, of whom Gallup does not have custody. The victim knocked on the door of the home where Gallup is staying, and could hear Gallup and the child in the backyard.
The victim entered the backyard and told the child to gather their things, and they were going to go home.
Gallup said the victim could not take the child, or the child’s things. The victim attempted to enter the home to gather the child’s items, at which point they said Gallup blocked them from entering the home.
The victim then said they were calling 911, and Gallup grabbed them by the right arm. They pulled the victim to the ground, then dragged them out by their arm and out the back door. They pried the phone out of their hand so they could not call 911.
The victim attempted to give the child their phone, and Gallup took that phone as well. The victim told deputies she was yelling for help during the incident. The child asked for their phone back, and Gallup told the child to get into the car.
Both the victim and the child got into the car, and Gallup threw their phones into the trunk area of the car. Gallup then left the residence, and the victim was able to call 911.
Deputies took photos of the injuries, and spoke with the child, who gave the same story as the victim, and said the incident had made them feel anxiety and scared.
Deputies contacted the Department of Alternative Sentencing (DAS) and advised them of the incident. They left a message with Gallup to respond to alternative sentencing the next day.
On Wednesday morning, DAS called the deputy and said Gallup was at their office.
The reporting deputy arrived and spoke with Gallup, and asked him what had happened the day before.
According to the report, Gallup opened with how he was approached by “some people about wanting to sell guns” the victim was in possession of. He said he had come in to speak with the sheriff, and was told “not to worry about it.”
The deputy advised Gallup that’s not what he was questioning him about. He asked about what had happened between him and the victim, and Gallup said nothing. The deputy asked how they got bruising on their arm, and Gallup said he didn’t know.
When the deputy repeated the story to Gallup on what had occurred, Gallup said that he “did not remember it, and it did not happen.” The deputy asked if he had been drunk, and Gallup said he was not.
The deputy took him into custody and walked him to the jail without incident, where he was booked on the four charges.
Total bail: $9,632; $4,000 cash only
Drug arrest on S. Carson Street
A 30-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the area of S. Carson Street and Rhodes St. early Thursday morning for possession of a controlled substance.
Just after 1 a.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driving on the white shoulder line on S. Carson Street. During the traffic stop, deputies noted that the man was “acting nervous and the car was filled with debris.”
A K9 unit was requested, and Deputy K9 Conan arrived to perform a free air sniff of the vehicle.
However, Conan did not provide a positive alert for narcotics. Deputies asked if they could search the vehicle for anything illegal, and the man said “yes, as long as you don’t make a mess.”
Inside, deputies located a small black case with a clear plastic bag containing a white crystalline substance with “two rocks” in it on the front passenger floorboard.
Deputies asked the passenger of the vehicle who it belonged to, and they said it was the man’s. When speaking with the man, he admitted to owning the case, and said there was “meth” in it.
He was taken into custody, and the substance gave a presumed positive for methamphetamine. The bag weighed 1.6 grams, and was booked into evidence.
