Over the last few weeks we’ve been receiving questions about when the 3rd Street McFadden Plaza’s splash pad will be opening up for the season, and Carson City confirmed it will be opening up in the next couple of weeks.
According to Community Relations Coordinator James Salanoa, maintenance has begun on the water feature popular with Carson City’s tiny and furry residents.
The opening day is slated for May 31; however, there is a possibility it may be able to open earlier depending on how much maintenance is required.
“There will be maintenance going on between now and May 31,” Salanoa said. “If everything goes smoothly, there is a chance it could open the weekend of the 24th, but that depends on the results of the maintenance.”
Typical maintenance of the splash pad includes draining and refilling the reservoir and adding start up chemicals as necessary; inspecting all pump house equipment and making replacements or repairs as needed; and fixing any damage to the pad itself and/or walkways around the area.
We’ll let you know if the water is turned on early, but for now, mark your calendars for the end of the month!
The Bob McFadden Plaza is located at 223 W. 3rd Street in Carson City between Carson and Curry streets across from the Nevada Legislature.
Can’t wait until then? The town of Minden has two of its own splash pads if your little ones need a splash pad visit today.

The Minden Park has a splash pad open May through October from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is operated by pushing a black button located on the splash pad itself which will get the water flowing.
Minden Park is located at 1601 Sixth Street.
A brand new splash pad opened at Westwood Park May 9, located at 1780 Pinewood Drive in Minden.
