A cool down in temperatures and a chance for showers and thunderstorms are possible this weekend for Carson City and surrounding counties, according to the National Weather Service.
A low pressure system will bring chances for showers and thunderstorms and gusty outflow winds Saturday afternoon across the region. Isolated showers are are in the forecast again Sunday, with lightning and gusty winds possible.
Forecasters say area-wide showers and thunderstorms will begin forming late Saturday morning with the bulk of them ending Saturday evening. Some lighter showers will last through the overnight hours into Sunday morning.
For the greater Carson City area, there’s a 50 percent chance of showers Saturday and a 40 percent chance Sunday.

Due to slightly cooler temperatures and increased shower coverage, snow levels Saturday and fall to around 8,000 feet, NWS forecasters said. Snow showers are expected above 8,000 feet in Mono County with up to 3-4 inches of snow possible on the highest peaks. Check NVroads.com for up-to-date travel conditions.
Elsewhere, snow will struggle to accumulate on Sierra passes and lower roads, but some slushy conditions aren’t out of the picture, forecasters said.
For the Lake Tahoe Basin, there’s a 50 percent chance of rain showers Saturday and a 40 percent chance on Sunday. Snow is not expected.
Sunday, the system moves further east over Arizona, so shower coverage will also shift east just barely clipping eastern Pershing, Churchill, and Mineral counties (50-60 percent chance, NWS forecasters said. Lightning will still be a concern, around a 30 percent chance.
Showers will also be possible Sunday afternoon in southern Lyon and Mono counties (30 percent chance). Temperatures will bottom out on Sunday, with highs close to 60 in lower valleys and near 50 in the Sierra. There may be some breezy north winds Sunday morning through Sunday evening with gusts up to 20-25 mph.
Monday through Wednesday, high pressure will once again take over and we’ll quickly warm back up to around 80 degrees by Wednesday, NWS forecasters said.
