The Carson City School District is pleased to announce Sheila Story, MSN, M.P.H, RN and chief nurse for the district, has been named the 2024-2025 School Nurse Administrator of the Year by the Nevada State Association of School Nurses (NSASN). Story was selected out of 11 nominees from more than 138 school nurses throughout the state of Nevada.
The recognition honors Mrs. Story’s outstanding dedication to student health and safety, her leadership and her continued commitment to advancing school nursing across the state. With nearly a quarter century of service in school health (19 of which have been with the school district), Mrs. Story has played a pivotal role in shaping and improving health services for students in Carson City.
“Sheila is the definition of what it means to be a servant leader,” said Andrew Feuling, superintendent of the Carson City School District. “Her deep compassion for students, along with her ability to lead with integrity and foresight, has not only benefited our school community, but also served as a model for other districts across Nevada.”
Throughout her career, Mrs. Story has been instrumental in implementing health protocols, expanding access to health education and mentoring new school nurses. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was at the forefront of response efforts, helping coordinate testing, contact tracing and vaccination clinics within the district.
About Sheila Story
Sheila Story is an exceptionally skilled Registered Nurse with more than 24 years of experience, including 20 years as the Chief Nurse for the Carson City School District. She holds both a Master of Science in Nursing and a Master of Public Health from the University of Nevada, Reno, and is a well-respected leader in school health services, public health and nursing education. She is proficient in policy development, employee and training and emergency response, guaranteeing safe and equitable health services for students. Her innovative programs and significant involvement in statewide COVID-19 testing have greatly influenced student wellness. As an Adjunct Professor at the Orvis School of Nursing (for 11 years), she guides aspiring nurses, promoting excellence in student healthcare. Sheila’s commitment to her field is highlighted by multiple accolades, including the Nevada State Association of School Nursing’s School Nurse Administrator of the year for 2024-2025.
