Four-legged heroes representing law enforcement agencies from throughout the region will compete this Saturday, Oct. 3 at the 5th annual Carson City Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit Challenge held at Fuji Park.
The K9 Challenge gives the community a unique opportunity to see the dedication, discipline and teamwork between law enforcement officers and their K9 partners from around the region.
All are welcome to the free community event, which features more than 30 law enforcement K9 handlers and their four-legged partners competing in primary events such as scenario apprehension, odor detection and agility along an obstacle course. The events will be on full display at Fuji Park’s main arena, where there are bleachers for public viewing (and cheering).
Whether you’re coming to compete or watch, there will be chances to meet the dogs, get some cool K9 swag and enjoy vendor and food trucks.
Among the agencies participating are the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada State Police, Reno, UNR and Pyramid Lake Police.
Gates open at 8:30 a.m., and the event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fuji Park is located at 601 Old Clear Creek Road in Carson City.
Attendees can expect:
- K9 competitions featuring law enforcement K9 teams from across the region
- Live demonstrations showcasing the incredible skills of local K9 units
- On-site food trucks and refreshments available for purchase
- Exclusive K9 Challenge event-specific K9 coins and merchandise available for purchase
