Carson City Library

The COVID-19 pandemic presented a host of challenges to public libraries nationwide. The Carson City Library responded to the crisis by closing its doors to protect library workers and their community. Now, the Carson City Library needs your support to urge President Biden and Congress to support library infrastructure through the Build America’s Libraries Act.

This Thursday, April 8 at 1 p.m., Gavin Baker, Deputy Director of the ALA Public Policy and Government Relations, will speak about the Build America’s Libraries Act with Nevada Library Directors and stakeholders via Zoom.

The Build America’s Libraries Act would fund upgrades to the nation’s library infrastructure to address challenges such as natural disasters, COVID-19, broadband capacity, environmental hazards and accessibility barriers. This bill would support all public libraries and improve library facilities in the nation’s underserved communities.

During the Zoom presentation, “Nevada library directors and stakeholders will be able to engage with Deputy Director Baker directly, learning what the bill hopes to accomplish and how to maximize benefit to the local community.”

“Libraries play such an important role in keeping communities connected, entertained and educated,” said Tod Colegrove, executive director for the Carson City Library and 2021 president of the Nevada Library Association. “Through the Nevada Library Association, it’s our responsibility to drive awareness about the Build America’s Libraries Act emphasizing what a tremendously positive impact it would have on communities across America, including our own.”

The Carson City Library encourages its patrons to take action by signing the petition, inviting your member of Congress to a virtual tour of your library and sharing the impact this legislation would have on your community on social media. Be sure to tag the Carson City Library on Facebook.
