Overnight snow showers left anywhere from a light coating to a couple inches of snow around the Carson City area in time for the Thursday morning commute.
As of Thursday morning, Nevada Department of Transportation and Carson City Public Works snow plows and sanders have been getting to roads and streets.
No major traffic incidents have been reported and schools around Carson City are not on any delay.
Though there appears to be some clearing, the National Weather Service in Reno advises some snow showers may stick around Thursday and possibly into Friday.
According to a special weather statement, the cold Pacific storm will continue to impact the region Thursday with scattered snow/pellet showers and isolated thunder. A coating to a few inches of snow accumulation is possible with these showers. Snowfall rates can be intense at times reducing visibility.
The main impact areas are for the Sierra, western Nevada, and northeast California. Snow accumulation was expected for areas south of US-50 as well as for the Sierra communities including Truckee, South Lake Tahoe, and Mammoth Lakes.
For areas north of US-50, the weather service advises to expect brief periods of snowfall with little to no accumulation, according to the weather service.
Travel impacts are possible on area roadways during this time, including portions of I-80 from Lovelock to Donner Pass, US-50, Mt. Rose Highway, portions of US-395 from Susanville through Mono County, and roadways in the Reno, Sparks, Carson City and Carson Valley areas.
Below freezing temperatures have happened across the region this morning and may continue tonight, and Friday morning which could lead to slick road and sidewalk surfaces, the weather service advises. Slow down, use caution, and allow extra time if you have to travel.
