A light layer of snow fell in the Carson City area overnight, resulting in potentially hazardous road conditions for the Monday morning commute, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno said.
“Expect slick and hazardous road conditions for the Monday morning commute,” the NWS said. “Even in areas where snow has diminished, watch for slick and icy roads this morning. Allow extra time to reach your destination and leave extra space between vehicles since it takes longer to stop on slick roadways.”
According to the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), chains or snow tires are required on the following area highways and roadways Monday morning:
— I-580 in both directions from Arrowhead Drive to I-580 at the Bowers Mansion exit through the Washoe Valley.
— US-50 from mile post 0.0 to mile post 14.6 in Douglas County.
— US-50 from mile post 0.0 to mile post 7.6 in Carson City.
— US-395 from mile post 0.2 to mile post 13.8 in Douglas County.
— SR-341 from mile post 3.0 in Lyon County to mile post 10.8 in Storey County in Nevada.
— SR-431 from mile post 0.2 to mile post 19.0 in Washoe County.
— SR-28 from mile post 0.0 in Douglas County to mile post 11.0 in Washoe County.
— SR-207 from mile post 0.0 to mile post 12.0 in Douglas County.
Bands of mainly light snow showers will continue to move across portions of western Nevada through mid-morning Monday, the NWS said, reducing from a 60 percent chance of snow showers to a 20 percent chance later in the day.
Most areas can expect to receive less than one inch accumulation, the NWS said, and locally up to two inches in heavier snow bands.
Areas most likely to receive snow through 7 a.m. include I-580 and Highway 395 south of Reno to Minden, Highway 50 from Carson City and Dayton eastward across west Central Nevada, the NWS reported.
The daytime high temperature around Carson City is forecast to reach 38 degrees and an overnight low into Tuesday of 17.
Conditions look to be drying starting Tuesday with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies through Friday, the NWS said. Highs will gradually warm from the low 40s to the mid-50s by week’s end.
Clear skies at night will mean cold overnight lows in the teens mostly.
