The St. Teresa Avila Conference, St, Vincent de Paul Society’s HUGS for Homeless Winter Clothing Drive is in its last weeks with donations exceeding our $12K goal.
Thank you to the following local merchants that provided discounts for our purchases of new winter, coats, gloves, hats and socks — BIG 5 Sporting Goods, Burlington Coat Factory (Reno), C-A-L Ranch Store (Carson City and Reno) and JC Penney. We have purchased more than $10K of winter clothing for our homeless citizens in Carson City to protect them from the outside elements.
SW Gas Corporation was the lead donor ($2500) for 2024-2025 HUGS for Homeless Winter Clothing Drive. Other major donors who contributed at least $500 include Corpus Christi Parish, St. Teresa of Avila Women’s Society, Carson City Toyota, Nevada Fence, Bennert Trust, Marcia C., Janice C., Senior Service Network and McAulay Family Charitable Fund.
Between Oct. 1, 2024 and Feb. 14, 2025, the St. Vincent de Paul Society has passed out 240 men’s and women’s new winter coats; 175 pairs of ski/sport gloves; 255 woolen hats and 480 pair of men’s and women’s athletic socks.
We use the following non-profits as distribution points since we do not have a physical office — Carson City Health and Human Services, Carson Tahoe Regional Hospital, FISH, Mallory Behavior Health Services, Night Off the Street, Northern Nevada Dream Center, Ron Wood Family Resource Center, Rural Center for Independent Living and the Salvation Army.
All donations to the HUGS for Homeless winter clothing drive are 100 percent tax deductible. Your donation via check can be written out payable to “SVDPS” and then mailed to: Saint Vincent de Paul Society, 3000 N. Lompa Lane, Carson City, NV 89706.
Online donations to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society in Carson City can be made through PayPal at any time by going here.
Thank you once again to our generous donors, local merchants and allies for making the 2024-2025 HUGS for Homeless Winter Clothing Drive a community-wide success story.
