In January, a dog was left tied up to a sign post near the Humane Society. A letter was left with the dog stating the dog’s name was Daisy, and that the owner could no longer take care of her.
The incident led to many discussions online about policies relating to surrendering animals in Carson City. However, not much information was provided about the dog herself.
Now, she has a new start on life. She was adopted by Ken Hamilton, the former Nevada Day director.
Hamilton and his family wanted to honor who she’d been, and was obviously loved by her former owner, even if they couldn’t care for her anymore. But they also wanted to allow her a new lease on life, and settled on the new name: Mazie.

“She is a great dog,” Hamilton said. “We’re going through a major adjustment period having not had a dog for two years, let alone a puppy. But we already love her dearly, and I’m not sure, but I think the feelings are mutual.”
A happy end to a story that gripped the community’s heart.
