On Jan. 30 at approximately 11:42 a.m. Carson City Sheriff’s Office patrol was sent to a shots fired call. The reporting party (RP) called advising they have been hearing gunshots for the past week advised they reported shots fired in the early morning around 4 a.m. and discovered several bullet holes in the side of the house and workshop shed after a family member inspected their house later in the day during daylight.
The reporting party also advised they have ongoing problems with their neighbor Thomas Wood, 78, and have an active extended protection order against him.
Deputies on scene located multiple bullet holes in the victim’s residence and observed several spent ammo casings outside on the ground, below Wood’s window which faces the victim’s residence, in addition to the window’s screen having been removed.

Wood exited his residence, met with a deputy outside and began making statements that he didn’t mean for anyone to get hurt and declined to speak any further after being read his Miranda rights.
A search warrant for Wood’s residence was requested and granted. During the search, a handgun and several spent rounds were located inside the residence and collected.
Thomas Wood was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Assault with a deadly weapon, 28 counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, unlawful discharge of a firearm, destruction of property, and 2 counts of violating an extended protection order.
