This week’s Carson High School senior should, most definitely, be in the Spotlight. I have had the extraordinary privilege of getting to know Nasia Perkins over the past three years at Carson High. In my 20 years as an educator, I can confidently say that she is one of the most steadfast, compassionate, responsible and hard-working students I have ever encountered. She is truly unlike any other.
Throughout her high school career, Nasia has demonstrated remarkable resilience and maturity. She has faced a significant amount of adversity — challenges that could easily have become obstacles to academic or personal success. Instead, she persevered.
Even more impressively, she developed a strong sense of self-awareness and intentionally recalibrated her priorities to establish healthy boundaries. This growth allowed her not only to rebound, but to thrive, ultimately accomplishing her goals with clarity and balance.
Academically, Nasia has consistently challenged herself by enrolling in the most rigorous courses available at Carson High, and she has been highly successful in them. Beyond the classroom, Nasia has been deeply involved in a wide range of extracurricular activities, including Speech and Debate, National Honor Society, Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Business Leaders of America, and Dance Club. Through these organizations, she has consistently demonstrated leadership, collaboration and kindness, serving as a role model to her peers and contributing positively to the school community.
Nasia plans to pursue a course of study in either planetary science or political science — fields well suited to her curiosity, analytical thinking and desire to make a meaningful impact. This girl is going places, and we are lucky to witness her path to success. Congratulations, Nasia.
