Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space invites the community to the inaugural Homestead Holidays event at Silver Saddle Ranch, Dec. 13-15, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. each night. Homestead Holidays is intended to be an old-fashioned holiday celebration with handcrafted decorations, holiday lights ornamenting historic ranch buildings, and family activities for all ages.

In this edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer sits down with Diane Dye Hansen of Proscenium Players, Inc. to discuss the upcoming production of the Orson Welles legendary 1938 radio teleplay, "War of the Worlds."

Following a collaborative recruitment between the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine and Carson Tahoe Health, Lorrel Toft, M.D., F.A.C.C., a cardiovascular critical care physician and researcher, has been recruited as an associate professor for UNR Med’s Department of Internal Medicine as well as a cardiologist on staff with Carson Tahoe Health.

MINDEN — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is hosting their third annual “Fright at the Fairground" during the month of October. The event will be offered at the Douglas County Fairgrounds located off Pinenut Road in Gardnerville and will run every Friday and Saturday afternoon and evening through the month of October.

The first Women’s Leadership & Legacy Retreat in Tahoe will be featured Thursday and Friday, Sept. 19-20 at Tahoe Beach Retreat.

RENO — As fire hazard has built through the summer, ALERTWildfire, a network of mountaintop cameras that helps fire managers spot and monitor fires over large swaths of land, has been on a frenzied pace to reach its goal of adding 300 cameras to the network in the western U.S. by the end of the year. In the past three years the network has been involved with nearly 1,000 fires.

CARSON CITY — Gabe Crossman, a 17-year-old senior at Carson High School and member of Troop 45, will be refreshing the “C" on C-Hill for his Eagle Scout and senior class projects Saturday, September 7, at 7 a.m. Seniors from the Class of 2019 moved the rocks to form “TJ3" in memory of their classmate Timmy Jones.

CARSON CITY — Getting a handle on the threats and opportunities that climate change is bringing to Western Nevada is vital to our community. Citizens’ Climate Education, GreenACT NV, Sierra Nevada Forums and Western Nevada College joined to bring together climate change experts and the public on June 27 to discuss climate change.

Changes in the climate and environment are contributing to an increased risk of wildfires in NV Energy’s service territory. In response to these changes, and to help protect our customers, equipment and environment from wildfires and extreme weather, NV Energy is implementing a number of measures which include, for the first time, Public Safety Outage Management (PSOM).

The NVSTY Car Club of Carson City held a car show today in Mills Park from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., showing off their rides, talking mechanics, and overall having a good time with friends.

The talented and friendly Andrew Sullivan is coming to the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall on May 25 at 7 p.m. to play a live show for Carson City. Come hear him play his great songs like “Where You Are,” and “Chickens in the Yard” and see why his fans are joining “The Chicken Club.”

Sponsored by Carson Tahoe Health and hosted by the Carson City School District, the Nevada Department of Transportation, Safe Routes to School, local bike clubs and shops, the inaugural event will serve as a proving ground to acquaint experienced and less experienced bike riders with their eco-friendly transport mechanisms.

There's lots of activities ahead, including a colorful fun run at Mills Park, a free paper and document recycling event hosted by Debug Computer, a prescription drug roundup, the Silver State's own celebration of the Aloha State, a Carson High School speech team fundraiser at Flavors of India, art showings and sales and a fundraiser at Flat Earth Pizza for a wonderful Carson City woman who is in the throes of cancer. A fundraiser for a Carson City mother who is currently battling stage 4 breast, bone and liver cancer is set for this Saturday, April 27 at Flat Earth Pizza.

The fundraiser for Mila Mangone of Carson City is from opening to closing, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the pizza restaurant, located at 2010 E William Street. Portions of the proceeds collected at the fundraiser will help Mila's treatment plan.

Country dancing is coming to Virginia City on Thursday, April 25 with a free community event at Pipers Opera House. The Carson Lanes Country Kickers, a dance group that meets and dances weekly at Carson Lanes’ Eleventh Frame Lounge, will bring their skill, enthusiasm and fun to the first, in what hopefully will be the first of many country dance nights on the spring-loaded dance floor at Piper’s.

A new movie that was filmed at the historic state prison in Carson City “The Mustang” starring veteran actor Bruce Dern and Matthias Schoenaerts, known for the Academy Award winning film “The Danish Girl” and Jennifer Lawrence’s “Red Sparrow,” will premiere in Carson City on April 11 at the Galaxy Fandango Theaters with the first showing at 7 p.m.

Nevada Film Office officials are heading to Los Angeles next week to pitch Nevada’s many iconic locations to executive-level film and television decision makers from Netflix, YouTube, Warner Brothers, Marvel Studios and others during AFCI Week.

In the tradition of TED, a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, comes TEDxCarsonCity which is back for a third year.

TEDxCarsonCity is a local, volunteer driven and organized event that brings people together to share a TED-like experience.

TED and TEDx communities recently celebrated 2000 events worldwide, and TEDxCarsonCity is proud to be part of a global community that is helping bring great ideas to towns and cities across the globe since the first TEDxCarsonCity event in 2016.

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s 4-H presents Capital City Farm Days, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., April 11-12 at the Carson City Fairgrounds and Fuji Park Exhibit Hall, 601 Clear Creek Road in Carson City.

There will be about 30 presenters teaching elementary-age youth about Nevada agriculture, where food and fiber come from, and environmental issues related to agriculture.

Sergio Trejo Jr., a Las Vegas native and first-generation college graduate, visited several Carson City schools recently to share his inspiring story about his admittance to medical school. Trejo presented to more than 150 students.

Not only is Friday the first day of March in this 2019 calendar year but it is also the end of the work week. And for this we say welcome to a month that brings us the Downtown Carson City Wine Walk, which is this Saturday, NCAA basketball playoffs, St. Patrick's Day celebrations and the first day of spring. The Nevada Off-Highway Vehicles Program, within the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, is excited to recognize Stan Harger of the Kokopelli ATV Club with its first-ever Trail Partner of the Year award.

As residents of Mesquite, Stan and his wife Patricia have many beloved OHV trails in Southern Nevada. The couple’s favorite OHV ride consists of two 90-mile routes which connect the town of Caliente and Mesquite.

Come enjoy the amazing vocal renditions of Elvis Presley by Method Actor, Clint Kenneth Ingbretson.

His stage make-up training started in L.A. at The Lady of Soul Awards and Soul Train.

“I loved meeting the greats like Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross and Natalie Cole," Ingbretson said.

Clint Kenneth is a father of three, has placed in the top three at Elvis competitions nationwide and has over 100 voices he can imitate.
