The Nature Conservancy Introduces New River Fork Ranch Preserve Manager

The Nature Conservancy has named Lori Leonard as the new preserve manager at River Fork Ranch Preserve outside of Genoa.

“I’ve been working for The Nature Conservancy as a Restoration Technician at the McCarran Ranch Preserve on the Truckee River for nearly four years,” explains Leonard. “Now, I’m really looking forward to bringing my conservation skills and background to the beautiful Carson Valley. I’m excited to engage with community members to make the most of this incredible preserve and to build on the success that TNC and partners have had here over nearly two decades.”

Forest Service buys easement on Jacks Valley Ranch to protect environmentally sensitive land

The U.S. Forest Service has purchased a conservation easement on Jacks Valley Ranch six miles southwest of Carson City, officials announced Tuesday. The property is between National Forest system lands on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Carson Ranger District and the Jacks Valley Wildlife Management Area.

104-acre McCarran parcel sale in Reno approved by Nevada's Board of Regents

RENO — The Board of Regents of the Nevada System of Higher Education at its Nov. 16 meeting in Las Vegas, the sale of a 104-acre parcel at the University of Nevada, Reno’s Main Station Field Laboratory for $18 million, the appraised value of the property.

Dayton Valley Wildlife Reststop accepting donations for shorebirds needing rehab

Due to the botulism outbreak at Carson Lake and the wetlands south of Fallon, the Dayton Valley Wildlife Reststop is taking in dozens of shorebirds and is asking for the public's help in getting the birds through rehabilitation.
