CARSON CITY — The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection announced Tuesday that it has received $1 million in Clean Water Act grant funds provided by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency that will be used to complete 11 projects to reduce “nonpoint source pollution” and improve water quality across the state.

Hello fellow anglers. Just got back from Oregon a few weeks ago and the world’s getting a little crazy. It's now fall, and it feels like we missed out on most of summer, between COVID-19 and wildfires, we might have to start doing some praying to get back to some sense of normalcy. We encountered 7 wildfires on our journey.

We're days away from our celebration of statehood and the weather around the capital city couldn't be more, well, Nevada-like with daytime highs near 70 and sunny skies. Carson City area activities ahead for Wednesday, Oct. 23 feature an economic roundup presented by the Northern Nevada Development Authority at Casino Fandango, Carson Tahoe's annual "Spooktacular" family event, Firehouse Subs will host our local Search and Rescue for a dinner fundraiser; Sierra Nevada Journeys and Nature Conservancy will present family STEM night in Genoa, plus art showings and more. Enjoy the day.

Sierra Nevada Journeys and the Nature Conservancy in Nevada will host a Family STEM Night and Open House from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 23 at River Fork Ranch Preserve, 381 Genoa Lane, Minden, Nev.

The event will provide a fun and interactive experience for all ages where participants can enjoy hands-on science through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities, and learn more about Sierra Nevada Journeys STEM nights and River Fork Ranch Preserve.

Hello fellow anglers. We have a few things going on in our local area. For anglers that fish Topaz Lake, you have until the end of the month to wet a line. As of October 1st, the lake will be closed until January 1, 2020. There is some speculation into next years fishing season.

RENO — Mountain snowpack is a primary source of water for the arid western United States. This region, which includes Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah, receives precipitation in mountains far from agricultural fields, and during the winter months when crops are not grown.

The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection’s (NDEP) Bureau of Water Quality Planning has approximately $1 million in federal funding available to provide grant assistance for projects that prevent or control non-point source water pollution, the leading cause of water quality impairment in Nevada.

UPDATE: A Flood Warning has been issued along the East and West Forks of the Carson River in Douglas County including the main stem of the Carson River from the confluence to the Cradlebaugh Bridge on Highway 395 in western Nevada. See the National Weather Service flood warning here.

A strong atmospheric river storm will impact the Carson City region, western Nevada and Sierra from Friday afternoon into Saturday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Flood Watch for much of the area.

Hello fellow anglers, fall has fallen and brought the down the temperatures with it. Last week camping with the Ness family, we hit a whopping low of 24 degrees one night. That is hardcore camping when you are in a tent. For those that want to get in a few last camping trips, you have better hurry up.

UPDATE 5:05PM: Lyon County officials advise the immediate threat from the retention basin is over. Water is still flowing in the drainages but no property or structures are threatened at this time. No evacuations were ordered and there are no reported injuries or fatalities.

We see man as being born into an uncertain and challenging world. In a state of nature, earthquakes, tornadoes and other disasters combine with infections and shortages of food, shelter and other basic resources to threaten man's very survival. But over centuries, humans have applied their intelligence to shape the world around them.

Hello fellow anglers, fishing season is coming to an end in some areas. In California, this will be your last weekend to fish many rivers and streams. On Nov. 16, the majority of rivers and streams in California will be officially closed for the season.

Hello fellow anglers, the weather has cooled down a little and the fishing has started to pick up around the area. Last weekend I took a trip early Saturday morning up to the East Carson River above Markleeville.
The mornings are cold, but warmed up about 7:30.

I fished a few long stretches of the river I have never fished before. I tip my hat to the Alpine County Fish and Game Commission. I just picked these spots at random because of the way they looked, Like something out of Field and Stream magazine.

Minden, Nevada – Douglas County Emergency Management is currently working on managing the current flooding in the Stephanie and Johnson Lane areas of Douglas County.

Douglas County, like other northern Nevada Counties has been hit with several daily rounds of heavy precipitation laden thunderstorms for over a week now.

Here’s a reminder of something special that occurs today in the Outdoor world: Today, Saturday, June 13 is Nevada’s Free Fishing Day for the year 2015. On this day, you can fish anywhere you want, and you will not need to have a Nevada fishing license or a Nevada Trout Stamp.

Today is also Nevada State Parks Day. Today folks can enjoy free admission to all 23 Nevada state parks.

Due to the ongoing drought, limited water in the Carson River impacts fish and wildlife habitats, especially by the end of summer. To enhance flows along the West Fork of the Carson River, the Carson Water Subconservancy District is utilizing their storage water rights to supplement water in the watershed.
