Carson City deputies arrest Dayton man after finding balloons with heroin

A Dayton man was arrested and faces felony drug charges after law officers discovered eight balloons of suspected heroin in his possession.

The arrest was made after Carson City deputies with the Special Enforcement Team were assigned to look for a separate man who had violated his parole, in the neighborhood of 20 College Parkway, at an apartment known for drug activity. The man — who was left to watch a small child — attempted to jump out of a second floor window, according to the arrest report. He was taken into custody.

Shopping center tenants vow to continue after Carson City anchor store leaves

Of the 27 businesses that front the Plaza 50 in Carson City, home of the anchor store Sak N' Save, many of its merchants are now left to gauge how their own operations will change after learning the grocery store will close its doors for good on May 30.

But the show will go on for many of the merchants, who vow to put their best face on an otherwise bad situation. Much like the recession has been thus far in the capital city, the collective wisdom remains "hope for the best."

Downtown Wine Walk

Today being the first Saturday of the month, it was time for the Downtown Wine Walk. In photo 1, Al Canary of Bella Fiore Wines talk with some of the wine walkers. In photo 2, the "Senator" waves at those driving by the Senator Club. And in photo 3, Rob Joiner (second from right), candidate for Carson City Board of Supervisors Ward 1, and some of his supporters were enjoying the wine walk at Downtown Coin Shop.

Senators blow away bad memories from day before

RENO -- On a day when the wind was gusting up to 40 mph, coupled with occasional rain and snow flurries, Carson High softball coach Scott Vickrey knew better than to expect an ordinary game against Galena.
"I told the kids nothing would be routine today, and the team that puts the ball in play the most would walk out of here with a win," Vickrey said.

City Hall helping some workers bail out!

To further demonstrate the dire budget situation Carson City City Hall is in, City Supervisors Thursday agreed to set up a program to pay "less important" city workers to quit. Payments include money, on their behalf, to the Public Employees Retirement System to help departing workers with their retirement situation. If PERS isn't an issue, the city can pay them cash or some sort of deferred compensation, or a combination of all of the above.

Carson City's Urban Pond

by Scott Schrantz Source: http://aroundcarson.com/2010/03/23/carson_citys_urban_pond The more finished this new pond at Fuji Park gets, the more disappointing it is. First, it's not in Fuji Park at all. It's behind the Carson City Fairgrounds, on the other side of the river, back where everyone can see it from the highway but you'll need signs and arrows to tell you how to get there. This could have been so much better if it was over by the grassy area of the park itself, maybe even built so that Clear Creek flows through it.

Nugget Project Questions: Who owns the land?

One of the first questions I heard raised about the Nugget redevelopment project had to do with who would own the land.

Some people have the false impression that the Carson Nugget is donating the land to the city.

As it has been proposed, the new library, public plaza and other pieces paid for by the city would be sitting on land owned by the foundation created by Nugget President Steve Neighbors, in accordance with the wishes of late owner Mae Adams.
