Laura Lau joins Nevada Rural Housing Authority
Submitted by editor on Tue, 05/13/2014 - 7:46pmLaura Lau has joined the Nevada Rural Housing Authority in the position of Management Assistant. In her new role, she will be responsible for providing administrative support of the Home at Last programs in the Northern Nevada office.
Lau has spent the past five years as a licensed real estate agent in the Carson City and Dayton areas. A 25-year resident of the area, she has also spent more than 16 years working for Carson City and Douglas County reviewing residential plans for new construction and remodeling projects.
Carson City CASA training begins April 16
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 04/09/2014 - 12:00pmCASA OF Carson City will begin a training for CASA volunteers Wednesday April 16, 6 to 9pm at the CASA office, 1539 E. Fifth St. in parking lot beyond the Juvenile Court.
CASA volunteers are appointed by the court to serve as guardian ad litem for a case of abused or neglected children in a child welfare court case. Being a CASA volunteer requires patience, caring, research, writing, speaking and follow-through.

Carson City Parks and Recreation award recipients announced

The public is invited to attend this free, outdoor event. The awards will be presented in the following categories:
Volunteer of the Years - Scott Tully, an individual who has an impressive, sustained record of donating his time and expertise for recreation programs.

I had my many sources of information from local law enforcement to departments of fish and game in the two states that I wrote about.
The most influential and most informative was Dave Zellmer from the Alpine County Fish and Game Commission.

For the past 31 years, Diane has volunteered and been an important part of the life of hundreds of youth in the Carson City tennis community by giving her time and efforts with passion and dedication for the betterment of the Northern Nevada/Tahoe Tennis community.
Her accomplishments are many, including volunteering for the Carson City Tennis Club and working for the Carson City Recreation Department as an instructor.

They arrived at 8:00 A.M. both days and their employees donated their own time to doing various park improvements to Korean War Veterans Memorial Park, located at East Fifth Street and Marsh Road.
Archaeological site stewardship workshop offered in Fallon

Feds Feed Families Food Drive Kicks Off In Carson City, runs through Aug. 28

In Carson City, federal employees from USDA Rural Development, the Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Federal Highway Administration, and the U.S. Geological Survey will be volunteering and collecting donated food in front of Grocery Outlet, at 1831 N. Carson, on Aug. 3 and Aug. 10, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day. Grocery Outlet owner Dave Cox provides discounts on purchases for food drives.

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar listed the McKeen Motor Car at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City as a National Historic Landmark.

Calling the McKeen Motor Car #70, Virginia & Truckee Railway Motor Car #22, "the best surviving example of the first commercially viable application of internal combustion power in a self-propelled railroad car" the designation possess exceptional value and quality in illustrating or interpreting the heritage of the United States, Salazar said.

Keep Tahoe Blue Volunteer Weed Pull
