Because of Corona Virus concerns and the recent CDC warning on events, The Clear Creek Bowmen archery club has decided to cancel our Hell or High Water archery shoot scheduled for March 22, 2020.

The same concerns will have an effect on our weekly Tuesday night shoots that normally start in April. So for now, consider those on hold too. Once we get the go ahead, we will resume the shoots and post it here on Carson Now.

Steve Sisolak said that while a testing kit shortage makes it impossible to tell how much coronavirus has affected Nevada, the pace of the virus’ spread around the world means Nevada must “act quickly” to slow it — including taking drastic measures such as shutting state offices, limiting the size of gatherings and encouraging employees to work from home if possible.

UPDATE 4:06PM: Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) held a press conference Thursday afternoon regarding the first reported presumptive positive case of COVID-19, which is this first reported case in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties.

The patient is a woman in her 70s who recently traveled out of the state to San Jose and returned on March 2. She flew on an airplane into Reno-Tahoe International Airport while she was asymptomatic. The plane or airline she traveled with was not disclosed during the conference.

CARSON CITY — Nevada Attorney General Aaron D. Ford is warning consumers to be alert of scammers looking to take advantage of fear surrounding the coronavirus (COVID-19) to sell fake products or steal your money or personal information. Fraudsters may use text messages, social media and emails to promote these scams.

UPDATED: When there is heightened concern around an illness, Carson Tahoe closely monitors the situation and implements enhanced infection prevention strategies, working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state and local health districts, and other local healthcare providers.

UPDATE MONDAY: The Washoe County Health District (WCHD) conducted COVID-19 testing Friday and all tests came back negative including all students at Huffaker Elementary School who were tested. The negative result includes the family member (a Huffaker student) of the resident who tested presumptive positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.

Carson City School District wishes to assure all families that they are in daily communication with the local, state and national health authorities on the status of the Corona Virus (COVID-19).

The school district has a Pandemic Response Plan which is supported by the Carson City Health & Human Services Department. The plan includes prevention efforts, surveillance of student and staff illness, communications, continuity of learning and coordination with local services.

The first patient in Nevada has tested presumptively positive for the novel coronavirus, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

A test performed by the Southern Nevada Health District confirmed the patient is presumptively positive for the virus, and a sample is being sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for official confirmation. The individual was identified through the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public and Behavioral Health has announced that it will begin posting statewide updates on the COVID-19 situation in Nevada on a weekly basis.

The Nevada Division of Industrial Relations Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Safety Consultation and Training Section are urging businesses to assess the risk to and protect workers from exposure to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus.

Carson City Health and Human Services is closely monitoring the current outbreak of a new 2019 Novel Coronavirus first identified in Wuhan, China. To date, there are no confirmed or suspected cases of Coronavirus in Nevada.

CARSON CITY — On Wednesday the Southern Nevada Health District reported the first person under investigation in Nevada for the 2019 novel coronavirus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be testing samples from the Southern Nevada resident who has been identified as a person under investigation. Currently, Nevada has no confirmed cases of novel coronavirus.

RENO — A second Washoe County resident has contracted hantavirus and died, the Washoe County Health District said Monday. This is the second fatal case of hantavirus since 2017 and highlights the seriousness of this disease.

According to several media outlets just weeks after rabies was confirmed in several Washoe County bats, a south Reno resident had been confirmed to be infected with Hantavirus, which is a respiratory disease contracted by breathing in the fecal matter of mice and rodents infected with the virus.

Or that a loved one is in danger, and they must transfer money immediately to help them.

As of Wednesday, May 1, the Nevada Department of Agriculture has lifted all quarantines for Equine Herpes Virus – Type 1 (EHV-1) in the state. One positive case related to an aborted horse was confirmed in Humboldt County; no quarantine has been issued for this case because the incubation period has passed, and no horses have been moved to or from the property.

CARSON CITY — Nicolas Jacques, music teacher at Carson Middle School, was honored last night as the Carson City School District’s Educator of the Year. Nevada Department of Agriculture has received reports that two horses that were in attendance at the National Reined Cow Horse Association Stallion Stakes event have tested positive for the respiratory, non-neurologic form of Equine Herpes Virus – Type 1. One horse was from California, and the second was from Clark County and is under quarantine order by State Veterinarian JJ Goicoechea.

The Disease Control and Prevention Division at CCHHS oversees disease surveillance and investigations in Lyon County and is the agency monitoring the situation. The individual confirmed to have West Nile virus was diagnosed with the less severe form of the illness. The exposure to WNV through mosquito bites occurred out of state.

Over the last two months in Northern Nevada, there have been 80 new cases of canine influenza reported.
