V&T Railroad ushers in spring season with special events
Submitted by editor on Thu, 03/17/2011 - 12:44pmThe 2011 season for the Virginia & Truckee Railroad is rolling down the track to opening weekend, May 27 through May 29 in Carson City, according to Convention and Visitors Bureau officials.
Before the official opening weekend, the railroad is offering a sneak peek into the historic route with a special event on Mother’s Day, Sun., May 8.
Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau nets $14K in state tourism grants
Submitted by editor on Thu, 12/16/2010 - 11:59amThe Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau was awarded $14,000 in grants last week from the Nevada Commission on Tourism for three different marketing efforts, providing support for the destination’s Divine Nine Golf Co-operative, its own website and video production and advertising materials for the Virginia & Truckee Railway.

V&T Railroad extends Carson City to Virginia City operations through Dec. 18
Submitted by editor on Fri, 08/27/2010 - 5:10pmThe Virginia & Truckee Railroad will extend its 2010 season to include new “Colors in the Canyon” train rides and will continue Saturday rides through Dec. 18.
The “Sisters in History Route” between Carson City and Virginia City was set to operate through Oct. 31, Nevada Day but due to popular demand as evidenced by many sold-out weekends, the season has been expanded for an additional six weeks, officials announced today.

Road re-opened after V & T derails near Virginia City (UPDATE)

As if channeling the “Little Engine that Could,” the historic railway started right where it left off last year with overwhelming public support. After a sold-out season in 2009, the V&T has expanded operations to Friday through Sunday rides, now through Oct. 31.
The strong beginning to the V&T’s summer operations has tourism officials hopeful the trend sticks.

The discount is available on adult tickets, May 29 through June 25, providing an affordable, $24 round trip voyage on a vintage diesel train between Carson City and Virginia City.
NV Energy giving V&T reconstruction commission $100,000 check

The effort to reconstruct the historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad is receiving a boost from NV Energy with a $100,000 grant to the Northern Nevada Railway Foundation, the fund-raising arm of the Nevada Commission for the Reconstruction of the V&T Railway.
