On July 25, Joe Tummarello, a long-term client with Carson City-based sober-living facility Lyfe Recovery, passed away at Carson Tahoe Hospital. By all accounts, a month before his death he had been in fine health for a man of 76. He dealt with COPD and needed an oxygen tank to breathe in the high altitude of northern Nevada, but a check-up with his doctors during May of 2019 showed he was nowhere near the brink of death.

However, after being relocated to Carson City from Lyfe Recovery’s Reno facility, Joe’s medication was withheld and he was denied medical intervention after a rapid deterioration of his health, which ultimately, it is alleged, led to his death.

Two were arrested Saturday for alleged possession of heroin for sale and other charges, a Carson City sheriff's deputy report said.

For now, this is the last regular column that will carry the Ron and Geoff byline. Geoff is leaving the Assistant Controller’s job July 1 for a new one.

James Smack, the Deputy Controller, will join Ron in the weekly column beginning next week. Geoff will make guest appearances now and then, we anticipate.

The biggest question right now is: “Why is Ira Hansen, a sitting Assemblyman from Sparks, going to such lengths to try to make people believe candidate Chris Forbush is ineligible to run for Assembly District 40 in Carson City?” Ira claims it is because he doesn’t want to see Forbush win the primary, but then as the Republican nominee, get thrown off the general election ballot leaving the seat wide open for the Democrat to win. What if that isn’t the reason at all?

MY PERSONAL LETTER TO ALL NEVADA REPUBLICAN ASSEMBLYMEN:It is time to put your priorities, perspectives and pride in order and remember who you work for.Election to the State Legislature is an honor. Many of you had to endure difficult Primary races, followed by difficult General election contests. In the end you prevailed. In the end, Republicans prevailed. Nevada Republicans as a whole prevailed to a degree never seen in our lifetimes.

This is the last in a three-part series about my recent (August 16-23) fly-in, trout fishing trip to remote Mitchell Lake, located in Cariboo Provincial Park in British Columbia, Canada.
The first in the series told you about our trip from Dayton, Nevada to Mitchell Lake via a single engine aircraft (piloted by my cousin’s husband, Bob Scholes) from Carson City and Dayton to Auburn, Washington to Abbotsford, British Columbia to Williams Lake, B.C. Then, at Williams Lake, we switched over to a helicopter to fly to our final destination of Mitchell Lake.

CARSON CITY – Reno Mayor Bob Cashell said this week he expects to see Harry Reid continue to help northern Nevada in a variety of ways now that he has won re-election in a bitterly contested Senate race.
