Three of 19 Carson City businesses sell alcohol to minors in recent compliance check
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 09/22/2015 - 4:47pmOn Friday Sept. 18 the Carson City Sheriff’s Office conducted an “Alcohol Sale to Minors Compliance Check” during the hours of 3:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. Of the 19 local businesses that were checked, three failed to fall into compliance. Those businesses were:
24 businesses checked, one sold alcohol to a minor in March compliance operation
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 03/28/2015 - 11:42pmOne Carson City business out of 24 that were checked earlier this month failed a compliance check by selling alcohol to a minor, according to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.
The compliance check was conducted Friday, March 20 from 5:30 p.m. to midnight. In violation was Maverik gas station and convenience store located at 1451 W. College Parkway.

This server training also includes volunteers of non-profit organizations that may serve alcohol at special events.

In what Furlong described as three "politically quiet but challenging years," crime statistics have trended downward since the 2010 election, which is remarkable given Carson City's economic climate as it continues to deal with the effects of a deep, prolonged recession.
DUI checkpoint in Carson City this weekend

For the holiday period stretch there will be heavy saturation patrols for DUI drivers, a DUI checkpoint, and enforcing underage drinking laws. The purpose of these activities is to ensure that drivers in Carson City are safe and sober going into and during the holiday weekend, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Darrin Sloan.
Carson City sheriff reports stabbing victim at house party taken to hospital
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 01/01/2013 - 2:16pmA 22-year-old Carson City man was stabbed and suffered a puncture to the lungs in a fight that happened at a New Year's Eve house party on Rex Circle late Monday night, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong reports.
The man, Adam Gaudette, was flown by Care Flight and was at last report in stable condition, said Furlong. Arrested was Leo Reyes Jacinto, 33, who faces a charge of battery with a deadly weapon. He is being held on $30,000 bail.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office will host the 8th Annual Cops and Kids Sheriff’s Open House safety, crime and substance abuse awareness fair today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, 911 E. Musser Street. Cops and Kids Sheriff’s Open House was started by Sheriff Ken Furlong as part of the community policing efforts implemented by his administration.
Dayton Valley Days Benefits Community

One of those nonprofits is Central Lyon Youth Connections (CLYC), an organization that offers a number of free programs to enhance positive youth development. Director Michele Watkins explained that CLYC includes Project Success, Volunteer Connections, Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws and service learning projects.
