Today is also a national day of mourning to honor the late former President George H.W. Bush. Flags are half-staff in Nevada now to Dec. 30. Here's what's happening today:

Good Day Carson City, it is Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018. The winter weather continues today albeit without any storm watches or warnings this morning. Light snow showers will continue today and and pick up tonight with less than an inch possible. As always be careful out on the roads. You'll be able to warm up at a number of venues today, including a holiday swing party with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at Casino Fandango's new Grand Ballroom and at the Carson City School District Orchestra Program concert at the community center.

The Carson City Photo Club announced the winners of its November photo contest and using the theme "Trees and Plants."

Hello Carson City and welcome to Monday, Dec. 3, 2018. A busy week ahead will start off chilly with sunny skies today and chances of snow daily through Thursday. Otherwise, bundle up and enjoy the late fall weather. Winter officially arrives Dec. 21.

The skies above Carson City are forecast to be mostly sunny and blue Sunday, but the air near freezing at 35 degrees for a daytime high. Bundle up if you decided to recreate outdoors today.

Two years ago at Christmas time, I made my way across the Capitol Plaza to cover bench dedications in downtown Carson City.

But something caught my eye when I reached the Nevada Slain Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, causing me to pause.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Nevada state capital, and there is no shortage of holiday events and activities to make the season bright.

With winter weather having arrived, it seems only appropriate the last Friday of November is when Carson City celebrates the holiday season in a big way by ringing in the spirit of giving with the annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights.

Good day Carson City, it is Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018. With steady rain in the city early this morning, slushy snow in the foothills and heavy snow in the Sierra, we are on our way to winter even though it is still technically fall. It sure is beginning to look like Christmas, especially as we head into the weekend, with Friday's Silver and SnowFlakes Festival of Lights at the capitol and Saturday's downtown Holiday Crawl.

For most, waking up this morning to rain was a big relief given the fire situation over the past few months. Today is Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018. The storm systems will continue over the next few days with the possibility of snow down to the valley floors by Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. As always, be safe out there. Beginning Tuesday, Nov. 27 until Dec. 11, 2018 Home Instead Senior Care and Center for Healthy Aging have set up their trees, and placed the tags for our seniors.

These are seniors, who are in homes, and have no one to celebrate the holidays with. Our community from Carson City to Dayton and in between have been absolutely wonderful by getting a tag, and filling the wishes for our Seniors here.

We have trees set up at Dayton Smith's, Paradise Salon, Les Schwab and United Federal Credit Union (off of Topsy), and AAA.

Today is known as "Giving Tuesday" an international day of charitable offering established five days after Thanksgiving at the beginning of the Christmas and holiday season. Have a favorite charity or nonprofit organization? Their cups are extended today and they could sure use any help you can provide, even if it's a few dollars, the equivalent of a cup of coffee.

Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch's annual Holiday Open House is set for Saturday, Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carson City ranch.

Good morning Carson City and welcome to the first day of the working week and the last week of November. It is Monday, Nov. 26, 2018. For those keeping score, there are 29 days left until Christmas. Were you able to get some of your holiday shopping done this weekend? You've got plenty of time this week to pick up good bargains, though it will be somewhat soggy outside. A series of winter storms will push through the Sierra and Carson City region this week.

Though it would take some seriously intense research to prove the following, it is believed by many the Carson City community is the most supportive group of people in the country. With the arrival of this festival day of feast, family, friendship and thanks, Mother Nature delivered valley rain and Sierra snow overnight. Gusty winds are expected later this afternoon. This morning appears to be in between weather systems, which is good news for those headed to the Governor's Mansion for the annual Turkey Trot. It may be soggy, but not heavy on the rain side.

Good day Carson City. Today is Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, and it is the final deadline day to vote on the future of a grant that would help fund the highly successful summer outdoor concert series hosted by the Brewery Arts Center and Levitt AMP.

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit began the sale of Christmas tree permits on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018. Permits to cut Christmas trees on the Carson and Bridgeport Ranger Districts of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest have been available since Nov. 1.

Here we are, Carson City, on our way to kicking off the holiday season this week with the arrival of Thanksgiving, which means a shortened work week for many. Today is Monday, Nov. 19, 2018. It will be mostly sunny with a high of 57. Enjoy the sun as a couple of weather systems will move into the area bringing gusty winds, valley rain and Sierra snow.

We are pruning pine, incense cedar and spruce trees now. Some have branches hanging in the way of the driveway or gates. Others have dead or dying branches. We had delayed pruning until after a hard freeze to reduce the possibility for beetle attacks.

Don't let the Interstate 580 freeway closure put a damper on your Sunday. There is still plenty to do close to home in Carson City.
