Trash Mob 'Hits' Downtown Carson City

Many people in Carson City have had an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful pedestrian and bicycle friendly downtown corridor since it officially opened Oct. 28. With its wide sidewalks and bike lanes, downtown Carson City is something we all can be very proud of. Let’s show everyone that we love our new downtown corridor by doing our part and keeping it clean.

Trash Mob to Clean Up Remnants of Waterfall Fire

The Waterfall Fire of 2004 was one of the worst fires in recent history to devastate the Eastern Sierra foothills near Carson City. After it was all said and done, over 8,700 acres and 18 homes were destroyed. As a part of the recovery process plastic tree protectors were put in place to help the seedlings that were planted.

You may consider Muscle Powered a hiking and biking organization, and you wouldn't be wrong. But Muscle Powered's motto is "Walk, Bike, Build," and it is the "Build" part of the motto that is sometimes overlooked. With the official opening of the Ash to Kings Trail last season, the building aspect of Muscle Powered's motto was highlighted.

Trash Mob to remove Bull Thistle this Saturday at Horse Creek Ranch

The Trash Mob has been going strong for more than a year now. Through the efforts of volunteers, and their partners at the Carson City Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Department, Muscle Powered has removed thousands of pounds of garbage from local trails and walkways. With an eye towards improving the overall community and environment in the Carson City area, the Trash Mob is holding a very special and limited event this month.

Last weekend the cyclists ruled our city, but now the hot-rodders are king of the road. Muscle Powered's Trash Mob meets Saturday to preserve historical site east of Carson City

During the Comstock Lode stamp mills dotted the landscape along the Carson River east of Carson City. Ore from nearby mines were brought to the stamp mills to be processed and have the gold and silver removed from the rock before it was sent off to San Francisco.

Carson City Trash Mob returns Saturday to cleanup freeway multi-use trail

Trash Mobs are a grass-roots community effort to keep the walkways and bike paths around Carson City free of littler. For just one hour on the third Saturday of each month, Muscle Powered holds the events at various locations around town. Volunteers, who are supplied with work gloves and trash bags by Muscle Powered staff, remove litter from areas often used by citizens of Carson City for recreational purposes such as walking, jogging, or cycling.

Volunteers from Muscle Powered often assist with maintaining the area's trails, cutting back encroaching brush, or building sustainable features into a trail in order to prevent erosion.

The countdown to Turkey Day has begun, and living in Carson City gives us plenty to be thankful for: Beautiful views, our own deer herd, great shops, yummy restaurants, talented actors, artists, and craftsmen, and wonderful people. Muscle Powered's September Trash Mob Needs Volunteers

They did it in July and hauled off over 200 pounds of trash in an hour. They did it again in August and removed well over 100 pounds in 60 minutes.

Now September is here and the Mob is at it again...Trash Mob, that is. The non-profit organization, Muscle Powered, has been behind the Trash Mob effort to keep walkways and bike paths free of litter. The group meets on the third Saturday of every month, each time at a different location.

Muscle Powered's August Trash Mob is this Saturday

Muscle Powered, the local non-profit organization that advocates for a walkable and bikeable Carson City, is hosting a Trash Mob Saturday morning, August 15 along the Lone Mountain trail located north of the cemetery in Carson City.

Trash Mob Looking for Volunteers to Clean Up Carson

Trash Mobs are a grassroots effort (based on the popular flash mobs) with the intention of keeping the Carson City walkways and bikeways free of litter.

Designed to make it convenient for people with busy schedules to give back to their community, Trash Mobs take place on the third Saturday of each month from 8-9 a.m.

Volunteers in Carson City's first Trash Mob set out to tidy up the town

Volunteers participated in Carson City's first Trash Mob bright and early Saturday morning, setting their sights and trash bags on the south side of College Parkway near the I-580 overpass.

Volunteer Randy Gaa said he noticed the trash along the multi-use path and wanted to do something about it. As a member of Muscle Powered, a community group that advocates bicycling and pedestrian friendly development, he brought up his concerns to Donna Inversin, Muscle Powered's president.

Thunderstorms are on the horizon, so seize the day and enjoy the sunshine while it’s here. Muscle Powered has organized a monthly trash mob to help keep our trails clean, join them at US Bank to help out. The Ghost Walk returns: meet behind the Firkin and Fox for some local haunted history. Teens will enjoy a ‘Night at the Library’ with pizza and games. And as always, the Nevada State Railroad Museum beckons: this week with rides on the Steam Train available.

Saturdays are meant for easy rides with Muscle Powered, Carson City Parks and Rec

Saturdays, 9:40 am through summer is the kind of organized bike ride for the family. Meet by the Muscle Powered bike rack in front of the Carson City Aquatic Center at 841 N. Roop St.
Bicycle rides will be moderately paced and distance will be at the discretion of the riders. The goal is to develop skills and endurance over time. Riders must wear helmets and closed toed shoes.

Trash Mobs Help Clean Up Carson City

Muscle Powered, the organization for a walkable and bikeable Carson City, is sponsoring a new initiative in the community in order to keep the local walking and biking paths clear of trash. Once a month, the local community will be invited to participate in a “Trash Mob.”

Where: Foothill Dr. at Winnie Lane
Why: This is the second in our series of quick trash pick up events. This area attracts a lot of walkers and bicyclists, and dogs. For all of you who walk or bike this area please come out for just 1 hour and help us clean up. If you have a pooper scooper please bring it.
We’re asking for only 1 hour of your time, not a lot, but it can make such a difference.
Carson City Parks and Recreation has promised to put up a Mutt Mitt station, so if we can get it cleaned up maybe it’ll stay cleaned up.
