Walmart helps sustain food pantries and job programs in rural Nevada communities

There was a lot of laughter and many hugs at a luncheon in Silver Springs as Bruce Barlow of Walmart presented a check for $70,000 to benefit the Dayton and Silver Stage Food Pantries.

Each summer, pantry volunteers, staff and participants host a lunchtime tour with key Walmart representatives to show their appreciation.

Carson City sheriff's investigators: Four teens reported as runaways have been located

Carson City Sheriff's Office investigators said Monday that all four teen girls who were reported as runaways last week have now returned home.

Boy Scouts of America honors Northern Nevada leader Jim Rogers with Silver Buffalo award

The American Buffalo did not roam in Northern Nevada more than a century ago as the West was settled, but Nevada does lay claim to its own Silver Buffalo in 2016. That “Silver Buffalo” is Jim Rogers and the national honor was bestowed upon this Nevadan by the Boy Scouts of America at its 2016 National Annual Meeting held in San Diego.

Rogers was honored during the recent BSA National Convention in San Diego. Today, there are more than 800,000 adult volunteers in BSA, and Rogers has been an active volunteer leader for over 35 years.

Carson City Sheriff: Two dead following vehicle rollover on Goni Canyon Road

UPDATE 9AM: Carson City School District Superintendent Richard Stokes offered condolences on behalf of Carson High School to family members after it was learned a 16-year-old CHS male student was killed in a rollover crash in Goni Canyon early this morning. An adult also died in the accident. The names of the victims have not been released.

A highlight of the organization’s Get A Glimpse summer program, a partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, The Student Consulting Project is the fifth in a series of six sessions that help young people think entrepreneurially about their lives and their futures.

Carson City Sheriff's Office: Runaway teen now home and safe

Fourteen-year-old runaway Jaden Crouser, who left her Carson City home on July 1, returned to her residence Thursday, according to Carson City Sheriff's Office Detective Steven Olson.
A deputy responded to her home and confirmed that she was home and safe.

Carson City Sheriff's Office seeks help finding teen runaway

UPDATE: The Carson City Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in finding a runaway teenager who left her residence in Carson City July 1 and has not been seen since.

The juvenile is Jaden Crouser and she is 14. She is a white female with blue eyes, blond hair with blue tint who may have recently dyed her hair a darker color and pierced her lip on the right side. She's five feet 1 inches tall and weighs approximately 120 pounds.

NHP investigates early Sunday crash on South Carson Street that injured Douglas teen

A crash early Sunday morning in Carson City that seriously injured a Douglas High School senior who was driving home from work remains under investigation by the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The adult driver of a Subaru who hit the 17-year-old female also remains in the hospital. Alcohol is being investigated as a possible factor at the time of the crash, law enforcement officers said.

Carson City teen competes at Boys and Girls Clubs Youth of the Year regional competition

Goal number one: Ride all the rides at Disneyland, including the scary ones. Goal number two: Make friends with all of the other state Youths of the Year prior to competing against them in Anaheim for a coveted spot in the national competition in President Barack Obama’s office this fall.

While the first goal could be from any teenager’s to do list, Autumn Cuellar of Carson City is not just any teen, thus, goal number two.
