CARSON CITY — 2018 was an exciting year for the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. As we put 2018 in the rear-view mirror, we’d like to celebrate some of our more notable highlights from the past year, and share a glimpse into what’s in store for 2019.

The Nevada Division of State Lands (NDSL), a division of the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, is providing approximately $350,000 to fund various environmental preservation projects in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Having raised millions to fund nearly 150 conservation projects in the Tahoe Basin, this month marks the 20th anniversary of the Lake Tahoe License Plate program offered through the Nevada Division of State Lands.

Ski season is nearly here and with it returns the popular “Plates for Powder” program. Residents who purchase a new Lake Tahoe license plate in either Nevada or California can receive free lift tickets to one of eight Tahoe resorts participating in the program.

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – A team of partners from the Lake Tahoe Aquatic Invasive Species Program is scheduled to begin implementation of an Asian clam control project in mid-June at Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park, Sand Harbor. Funding for this project is coming from the NV Lake Tahoe License Plate Program and Tahoe Bonds from the State of Nevada.

If you love Tahoe and you love to ski or ride, now is the time to take advantage of the “Plates for Powder” program.

Visitors to the Lake Tahoe Summit on Tuesday, August 19 will notice new gateway signs along three Nevada highways leading into the Lake Tahoe Watershed. Installed near Daggett Summit on Nevada State Route 207, Spooner Summit on U.S. Highway 50 and on Nevada State Route 431 the Mount Rose Highway, the decorative gateway signs read, “Entering the Lake Tahoe Watershed — Help Protect It!”

There will be free parking and beach access Saturday to Sand Harbor, Cave Rock and Spooner Lake state parks for those who support Lake Tahoe with the purchase of license plates.

“Buying a Tahoe license plate is one of the easiest ways to help the Lake,” said Tahoe Fund CEO Amy Berry. “Thanks to Nevada State Parks, we are able to show our appreciation to Tahoe plate holders with a free day at the beach or park.”

The Tahoe Fund has partnered with Nevada State Parks to offer free access July 12 to Sand Harbor, Cave Rock and Spooner Lake to current owners of Lake Tahoe license plates. The event is designed as a gesture of appreciation to those who support Lake Tahoe with the purchase of license plates.

“We are thankful to the thousands of people who choose to buy and renew their Tahoe license plates,” said Jay Howard of Nevada State Parks. “Our Lake Tahoe parks benefit greatly from those funds, with beach improvements, watershed restoration work, and new hiking trails.”

Nine projects have been awarded grants through the 2014 Lake Tahoe License Plate program, which generated around $350,000 last year from the sale of special plates through the DMV. Grant recipients were announced Tuesday by the Nevada Division of State Lands.

Grants are made available annually for projects that preserve and restore the natural environment of the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Beginning Thursday current Lake Tahoe license plate holders are eligible to win free lift tickets through the Tahoe Fund’s “Plate Spotter” program.

Owners of Tahoe plates who post photos of their plates to the Tahoe Fund Facebook page are entered to win two free lift tickets from one of eleven participating resorts. Winners will be drawn randomly bi-monthly through March.

Grant money generated through the sale of Nevada Lake Tahoe license plates is available for projects designed to preserve and restore the lake, the state's division of lands announced Friday.

Around $350,000 generated from the plate sales will be available to public agencies seeking funding, according to a news release. Proposals which include the implementation of capital improvement projects that further the attainment of the TRPA Environmental Thresholds will be prioritized in this funding cycle.

With the official start to the Tahoe ski season just around the corner, the Tahoe Fund is launching the popular “Plates for Powder” promotion to drive sales of Lake Tahoe license plates.

New Lake Tahoe license plates are appearing on the vehicle fleets of major ski resorts and businesses in the Tahoe Basin, as support for the Tahoe plate program in California and Nevada continues this winter.

Heavenly Ski Resort helped launch the program in 1996 and has 140 vehicles plated for Tahoe. Northstar Resort, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, and Tahoe Dave’s Skis and Boards have ordered new Tahoe plates.

The snow forecast to hit the Lake Tahoe region during the next few days is expected to give the Tahoe Fund's Plate for Powder program a boost along with Sierra ski resorts and businesses. Drivers who purchase a California or Nevada Tahoe vehicle license plate will receive two free ski lift or Nordic tickets to the resort of their choice. New Tahoe plates cost $50 in California and $61 in Nevada.

The Tahoe Fund announced today that 12 major Lake Tahoe-area ski resorts are offering two free Alpine or Nordic tickets for every purchase of a California or Nevada Lake Tahoe license plate between December 12 and April 15.
